;.Be it known that I, GEORGE A. CLARK, a citizen of the United States of America, and

resident of the city of Seattle, in the county of King and State of Washington, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Castjoffs for Suspenders, of which i the followingis a specification.

M invention relates to cast-ofis such as fare used for suspenders and has for its obtermined from a study of the description following hereafter and the claims which terminate the specification.

The features of my invention which I bielieve to be 'new'and upon .which I desire to obtain a patent will hereinafter set forth and. then speciiically defined by the claims.

Figure 3 is an edge view seen from above of the upper or bar member of the cast-ofi. There are two parts to this cast-off, one

being the strap member 1 designed for attachment thereto of the web'or strap of the suspender, and the other the cord member 2 whichfi's adapted to be secured upon the cord or e uivalent member 5 which is secured to t e buttons of the trousers. The upper or strap member 1 is in the form of a plate having a longitudinal slot 10 therein of such size as to receive therein the web 4 of a Suspender. This forms an upper bar 12 and a lower bar 11. Depending centrally from the lower bar is an ear 13 which carries a forwardly projecting pin 3. This pin is provided with a head 30 which in my improved form of construction is offset relative to the pin 3 so that the lower edge of the head 30 is flush with the lower surface of the pin. While this feature of construction is not essential in connection with certain features of my invention, it is, however, a desirable one which I prefer to use.

The cord member 2 is formed of a piece of sheet metal bent upon itself to form an eye 23 which receives the cord 5 or other equivalent member which is adapted to be secured to the buttons of the trousers. It has two arms 20 and 21 extending from the eye in substantially parallel relation with each other but normally slightly separated toward their outer'ends. These should preferably contact close to the eye. One or both of these members should have sufficient resilience that they may be pressed closer together and will, when unrestrained, be separated at their ends. Each of these arms is provided with a slot adaptedin its lower end to pass the head 30 of the pin and reduced in width at its upper end so as to receive'the shank of the pm 3 but not to pass the head. Such a slot in the preferred form of construction is shown, consisting of the keyhole slot 22. These slots in the two arms register with each' other in the completed article.

The face-of the outer or forward arm 21 is provided with a forward projection or projections locatedso as to be engaged by the side projecting wings of the head 30 so that as the pin is given relative movement lengthwise of the slot the outer arm 21 will be forced closer to the rear arm 20. In the preferred construction this result is secured, by forming a slight outwardly projecting transverse crimp or corrugation 24 in the sides of the outer arm 21, which by its engagement with the side wings of the head 30 prevent unintentional movement of the pin downward in the slots and therefore pre vent unintentional separation of the parts. The car 13 of the strap member 1 is given a slight rearward inclination towards its lower end. The object of this is to place the plane of the cord member 2 at such an inclination that as it is moved upwardly it will not gouge into the bend in the web 1 and thus cause wear. For the same reason the inner arm 20 is given a slight outward bend which may be accentuated at its tip. as shown at 25. Should the upper end of this arm engage the web, this rounded outwardly bent tip will cause it to slide over the web without catching or gouging thereinto. The curvature of the main body of the arm will cause its upper end tobe deflected out as it moves upward, thusdecreasin the ssibility of engaging the web.

Slack between'the' two" parts and a tendency of thelowerto lift will not, cause it to be disengaged from the pin. The resiliency of the arms 20 and 21 and the fact that the humps 24: are below. the head 30, will furnish frictional resistance to forcing the head of the pin over the *humps 24" and this will be enough to cause the upper member of the cast-oil to be lifted and thus prevent separation of the two parts. At the-same time separation may easily. be secured by holding the upperor strap member 1; while or cord member 2. Thearms 20 and-21 being close together near the eye 23,-or. inthat part which contains the eye -22 of the keyhole slot, make easy the placing of theeye member 2.. over the pin 3. What I claim as my invention is:

'1. A cast-oif for suspenders comprising member having a pin provided. with a head.

and a. member complemental thereto and having tworesiliently separated arms each provided with a keyhole slot for the reception of said pin, one ofsaid arms having a projection from its eneral plane and located between the small pin when the latter is moved from thesmall end towards the large end of the'slot.--

2. A cast-off for suspenders comprising two. complemental parts one having aproby. offsetting .the head over the lower edgeof the slot and the. large end. of the slot, and engageable by the head of the.

3. 5.. A Suspender cast-off having two complemental members one provided .with a projecting pin having a head offset to have its lower edge flush with the lower edge of the pin proper, the other. member having a slot for. the reception of said pin enlarged in its lower part to p'ass the pin head.
