HAIR HOLDER.
Application filed July 3, 1922.
To a]! 10710-122 it mrry'conccm:
Be it known that I, VoLNnY E. limit, a citizen of the United States, residing at Los Angeles, county of Los Angeles, State of California. have invented a new and useful Hair Holder, of which the following is a specification.
This invention is a hair holder of the type shown in my copending application Serial No. 632,304, filed April 16, 1923, and it is the object of the invention to provide an improved device for holding the hair in position, off of the brow and out of the eyes, which isoif general utility,.andparticularly useful when motoring, swimming, exercising andv the like.
The invention resides in theprovision of means consistingof a retaining strip adapted tobe received over the top of the head and resting upon the hair so as to hold the hair in position; and in what I now believe to be the preferred form of said. invention, an arrangement is contemplated whereby the hair'is held in place, not only at the roots of the hair adjacent the top 0t the brow, but alsoover the forward portion of the top of the head, or at the ends of the front hair when it is combed back from the forehead More particularly, the form of the invention illustrated includes asnug fitting brow encircling band for holding the device in position, and preferably adjustable to fit heads of different sizes, and a second band connected thereto and adapted to extend over the top of the head at such a point as to snugly fit a head of substantially any normal size, said second hand being drawn against the hair with sufficient pressure when the device isin place, to hold the hair in position against the head. The invention also provides for adjustment. of the band passing over the top of the head, so as to adapt the device to a head of abnormal size or conformation.
The invention will be readily understood from the following description of the accompanying drawings, in which:
Fig. 1 shows the device in position for use upon the head.
Fig. 2 is a plan view of the adjusting means employed in connection with the device.
The improved construction is illustrated as including the band 1, of relatively narrow, fabric, or other suitable pliable material, preferably having adjustable connect- Serial No. 572,582.
ing means at its ends. When the device is in position, this band is received around the head, across the brow and above the ears.
A second band 2, preferably of similar material, is connected to the sides of band 1 as shown at 3, so that said second hand adapted to extend transversely over the head when the device is worn. This second hand may be provided with adjustable conmeeting means, preferably at the top of the same.
The adjustable connecting means employed for each of the bands, is illustrated as comprising a usual frictionally retaining adjustable buckle 1.
The band 2 is positioned with a definite relation to band 1, in'order LO hold the ends ofthe :tront hair, and also adapt the device to substantially any normal head.
As an exemplification of this arrangement, the band 2 is fixed atsubstantially an angle of forty-five degrees to the band 1. When in such position, the head band is suitably spaced from the brow band, and forwardly from a vertical position, so that differences in size of heads, measured vertically over the same, or around the brow will affect practically no change in measurement at the line ofthe head band. It will thus be seen that adjustment of. buckle 4c of the brow band will tighten both the brow band and the forwardly inclined head band. so that the hair holder may be held in place without necessitatingtightening of the brow band to such an extent as to cause uncomfortable binding thereof against the head.
This arrangement of the head band also positions the same across the top of the head and at the forward portion thereof, where it will hold the ends of the front hair, while the brow band engages the roots of said front hair.
When the hair holder is in place upon the head, the brow band is adapted to lit snugly around the brow so as to engage the same with sufficient pressure to retain the device in place, said brow band, when so desired, being varied in length by adjustment of its buckle 4. The head band 2 is of such length and so positioned that with the brow band retained in place as described, said head band will be drawn tightly against the hair, and when so desired, additional contraction of the head band may be obtained by adjustment of its buckle 4.
I have thus provided a hair holder which tion, and arrangement of parts, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
What is claimed is: e 1. A'hair holder comprising a brow encircling band, means for adjusting said band so as to tighten the same around the brow, a second hand rigidly fixed to the sides of said brow encircling band at an angle of approximately forty-five degrees and arranged to extend over the forward portion of the top of the head from one side thereof to the other, so as to rest upon and extend crosswise of hair extending rearwardly from the forehead, and means ,for adjusting said second band so as to draw the same tightly against the head,
2. A device of the character described comprising a brow encircling band, and a second hand rigidly fixed to the sides of said brow band at an angle of approximately forty-five degrees and arranged to extend over the top of the head from one side thereof to the other, so as to rest upon and extend crosswise of hair extending rearwardly from the forehead.
3. A device of the character described comprising a band adapted to fit snugly around the brow so as to retain the device in position upon the head, and a band rigidly fixed to opposite sides of said brow band and adapted to extend over the head so as to be drawn tightly against the hair by the positioning of said brow band, said head band being angularly disposed relative to said brow band so that when the latter encircles the brow said head band is held in position inclining forwardly from the vertical at a relatively small angle adapted to space the upper portion of said head band slightly in front of the highest portion of the head.
4. A hair holder comprising a band adapted to fit snugly around the brow so as to retain the device in position upon the head, a band rigidly fixed to opposite sides of said brow band and adapted to extend over the head so as to be drawn tightly against the hair by the positioning of said brow band, said head band being angularly disposed relative to said brow band so that when the latter encircles the brow said head band is held in position inclining forwardly from the vertical at a relatively small angle adapted to space the upper portion of said head band slightly in front of the highest portion of the head, and a frictionally adjustable buckle adapted to connect the ends of said brow band. v
5. A hair holder comprising a band adapted to fit around the brow, and a band rigidly fixed to opposite sides of said brow band and adapted to extend over the head, said head band being angularly disposed relative to said brow band so that when the latter encircles the brow said head band is inclined forwardly from the vertical at a relatively small angle adapted to space the upper portion of said head band slightly in front of the highest portion of the head.
6. A hair holder comprising a band adapted to fit around the brow, a member adjustably connecting the ends of said brow band to tighten the latter around the brow,
and a band rigidly fixed to opposite sides of said brow band and adaptedto extend over the head, said head band being angularly disposed relative to said brow band so that when the latter encircles the brow said head band is inclined forwardly from the vertical at a relatively small angle adapted to space the upper portion of said head band slightly in front of'the highest portion of the head.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification.
