PACKAGE.
Application filed December 309-1922,; Seiial Not- 609,909:
Be it known that I,-' Josnrn Nnss a citi zen of Great Britain, residing at East Lake, in the county of De Kalb and State of Georgia, have invented new and useful Improvements in Packages, of which the following is a specification.
This invention generically appertains to containers, but it more specifically comprehends a container for candy and the like done up in a fanciful or artistic package.
One object of this invention is to provide a container for candy and the like with a different article of manufacture secured externally to the container as an advertising novelty.
Another object is to provide a container of the character specified with a different article of manufacture secured to the outside of the container and presenting means for Se curing said article of manufacture and the top and bottom of the box together in a unitary package.
With these and other objects in view, which will become apparent as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts, hereinafter more fully described and claimed, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which like characters of references indicate like parts throughout the several figures, of which:
Figure l is a perspective view of the container forming the subject matter of this invention showing the article of manufacture secured in position; and
Figure 2 is a cross section taken on the line 2 2 of Figure 1.
It will be observed I have designed, in the present instance, a container for candy, of an artistic design and adapted to have attached to the exterior surface a phonograph record, and presenting novel and artistic means for securing the said record and the top and bottom of the box in a unitary package and by a single operation of the said securing means.
In the illustrated embodiment characterizing this invention there is shown a box A consisting of a bottom section and a corresponding 'top or cover section 11, and since it is desirable that an artistic appearance be attained the exterior surface of the cover may be illustrated fancifully or in an attractive manner symbolical of the contents, as desired; The said cover 11 is centrally perforated as at12'and13-to provide ananchoring medium for the attaching means, hereinafter more fully described.
A phonograph record 14: provided with a. central aperture 15 is placed centrally of the exterior surface of the cover 11, and a binding or fastening means 16, such as a ribbon, cord, or the like, is fed down through the aperture in the record, through the opening 12 of the cover 11 and up through opening 13 of said cover and through said aperture 15 in the record, after which the free ends of the ribbon are oppositely extended around the container transversely thereof, crossed and broughtaround the container longitudinally thereof and secured together substantially central of the said record in a bow knot or similar artistic manner.
It will be obvious that when the above described operation has been completed, the phonograph record will be securely fastened to the exterior of the container, the top or cover firmly secured to the bottom section, and the assembled parts presenting a unitary and artistic package ready for shipment to the trade.
From the foregoing it will be observed that I have provided a container embodying novel means for attaching an article of manufacture exteriorly of the container and different from the contents of the same, without in any manner detracting from, but rather enhancing its artistic appearance, and while I have illustrated my invention preferably as a container for candy, it is equally applicable to containers for gloves, handkerchiefs, flowers, and the like.
In practice, I have found that the form of my invention illustrated in the accompanying drawings and referred to in the above description as the preferred embodiment, is the most eflicient and practical; yet realizing the conditions concurrent with the adoption of my device will necessarily vary, I desire to emphasize that various minor changes in details of construction, proportion and arrangement of parts, may be resorted to within the scope of the appended claims without departing from or sacrificing any of the principles of this invention.
Having thus described my invention, and without enumerating variations and equivalents, what I desire protected by Letters Patent is as set forth in the following claims:
1. A container of the character described comprising a tray, a cover for the tray, a phonograph record secured to the cover exteriorly thereof, ribbon or cord means carried by the cover and extending through the aperture in the record for securing the same to the cover, said nieans also securing the cover to the tray.
2. A container of the character described comprising a tray, a cover for said tray having perforations approximately at its center, a record carried exteriorly of said con tainer and resting on the cover, and a com lnon means for securing the cover to the tray and record to the cover, said means lacing through the central aperture of the record and perforations of the cover.
