Description

Dec. 25, 1923. 1,47,411fi v L. F. WILLETT TONGUE FASTENER Filed 001;. 16 1922 Lloyd F 34/632811? INVENTOR WITNESS: ATTORNEY Patented Dec. 25, 1923.
UNETED SATES lAYfilti LLOYD F. WILLETT, O1? EVANSVILLE, INDIANA.
TONGUE EASTENER.
Application filed October 16, 1922.
To all whom 2'25 may concern:
Be it known that I, LLOYD F. WILLETT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Evansville, in the county of Vanderburg and State of Indiana, have invented new and useful Improvements in longue Fasteners, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to shoes, and has particular application to an attachment therefor designed to hold the tongue of the shoe properly positioned between the meeting edges thereof, the attachment being associated with the tongue and adapted to be engaged by the shoe lace in a manner which will hold the tongue positioned in the manner stated.
it is also 11 y purpose to produce a new article of manufacture for the purpose above mentioned, the article being designed to be conveni ntly attached to the tongue of the shoe, and when in position for use presents a very ornamental appearance.
he nature and advantages of the invenwill be better understood when the folg detailed description is read in connection with the accompanying drawing the invention residing in the construction, combination, and arrangement of parts as claimed.
In the drawing forming part of this application, like numerals of reference indicate similar parts in the several views, and where igure 1 is a view of a shoe, showing the attainment associated therewith.
Eigure 2 is a sectional view taken on line of Figure l. r igure 3 is a detail view of the attachment, ing to t ie drawing in detail, 10 1 shoe of well known construction, of which is illustrated at 11, and e lace indicated at 12, attachment forming the subject matter of the presentinvention consists of abar 13 terminating to provide spherical end portions, which affords the attachment in its entirety an ornamental appearance. It is of course to be understood that the attachment may be constructed from any suitable ma- Serial No. 594,870.
terial and treated to add to its degree of ornamentality; The bar is adapted to be secured to the tongue 11 of the shoe, this may be done in any suitable manner. The bar for this purpose is preferably provided with a fastening member including bendable limbs 15, which are adapted to penetrate the tongue 11 of the shoe. and then bent to lie against the inner side of said tongue. If desired, the bar may he provided with a slot 16 to accommodate the fastening element of U-shapcd formation as shown, the limbs of which fastening element are adapted to be associated with the tongue in the manner described. In use, the attachment is arranged transversely of the tongue and is of a size to extend a slight distance beyond the meeting edges of the shoe, so that when the latter is laced, the lace by being passed about the bar assists in holding the tongue 11 of the shoe centrally positioned between the meeting edges thereof. The invention is in the nature of an article of manufacture which can be manufactured and sold at a very nominal cost.
i 'Jhile it is believed that from the foregoing description, the nature and advantagesof the invention will be readily apparent, I desire to have it understood that I do not limit myself to what herein shown and described, and that such changes may be resorted to when desired as fall within the scope of what is claimed.
What- I claim is An attachment for shoes comprising a bar, formed to provide terminal enlargement-s, said bar having a longitudinal slot for a portion of its length, a headed fastener passed through said slot and including bendable limbs, adapted to penetrate the tongue of the shoe and subsequently bent at right angles to the bar for holding the latter attached to the tongue, said bar being ar ranged transversely of the shoe and adapted to be embraced by the lace thereof for the purpose specified.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
LLOYD F. WILLETT.
