POCKET ORNAMENT.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, Roam CHARLES Cannon, J r., a citizen of theUnited States, residing at Columbia, in the county of Bichland and State of South Carolina, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pocket Ornaments, of which .yet answer the same purpose.

Another ob'ect of the invention is to provide a plurality of interchangeable articles of this character whereby various types may be alternately or interchangeably used.

With these and other objects in view the invention consists in certain novel features of construction as herein shown and described, and claimed.

In the accompanying drawings Figure 1 represents a portion of a mans coat showing the left hand upper coat pocket with the ornament constituting this invention shown applied, a portion of the pocket bein broken out to disclose the mounting o the ornament in the pocket.

Fig. 3 is a perspective view of one of the ornaments detached.

A ocket ornament in accordance with this 1nvention comprises a mounting referred to generally by the reference character 1, and composed of a pair of inverted frustro triangular shaped holding members,

2, 3, formed from two complemental sheets of cardboard or other suitable material, which are arranged in abutting relation and are secured together at their sides and inner or otherwise. The mem bers 2, 3, at their outer detached ends possess an inherent clamping characteristic when slightly extended in opposite direction with respect to each other so as to clamp therebetween and hold projected therefrom an ornamentive tip which in Figure 1 is illustrated in the form of the tips 4 of a handkerchief, and in Figure 3 as finger tips 5 of a glove.

The mounting for these tips may be of any desired shape, preferably of substantially truncated triangular contour to facilitate its ready insertion in the pocket of the garment. I

By securin the tips 4 or 5, in the fiat mountin 1, t ey may be positioned in the pocket to project above the upper edge thereof, and present the appearance of'a folded handkerchief or a glove, and yet the objectionable bulk incident to the use of the completed article is avoided. The

pocket P, being usually made very small and when a pair of gloves or a glove, is inserted therein, the body portion of the glove will cause the pocket to bulge outwardly and present an objectionable appearance.

Any suitable means may be employed for retaining the device within the, pocket P, a pair of downturned prongs 6, being here shown carried by a rod 7, located between the upper portions of the clampin elements 2 and 3, and which is equippe with a ing eye 8 to provide for the passage of stitches or other securing means for holding the rod against turning between the plies. Each terminus of the rod 7 is bent at right angles and extends through the element 2, and with which a prong 6 is integral.

While handkerchiefs and glove tips are shown in the embodiment herein obviously any ornamental device which it would be desired to carry in this pocket or in any other pocket for that matter may be substituted, the gist of the invention residing ,in the flat mounting or holding the ornament and securing it within the pocket.

The preferred embodiment of the invention is disclosed in the drawings and set forth in the specification, but it will be understood that any modifications within the scope of the claimed invention may be made in the construction without departing from the principle of the invention or sacrificin any of its advantages.
