To aZZww/m, t may concern.'
Be it known that I, a citizen of the United States,'residing at Zanesville, in the county of Muskingum the invention, such as will enable Vothers tising device constructed in accordance withr skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention has for its object to provide an extremely simple andinexpensive, yet a Very desirable arrangement for conspicuously displaying advertising cards, the de- A vice being Well .adapted for supporting cards ,used in political campaigns, which usually display a photograph of the candidate and` remarks concerning. him. Y
AlNith the foregoing in view, the invention resides in the 'novel' subject matter hereinafter described and claimed, the description being supplemented by the accom; panying drawing.
Figure 1 is a rear eleva-tion of an advermy1 invention;
4igs. 2 and 3 are vertical sectional views on lines 2-2 and 3-3 of Fig. 1;
Fig. 4 is a front elevation; Fig. 5 is a perspective view of the card supporting frame.
In the drawings above briefly described, the numeral l designates a rectangular advertising card having its upper end 2 turned downwardly and rearwardly and secured against the back of the card near the vertical edges ofthe latter, by rivets 3A or any other suitable means, there-by forming a downwardly opening pocket to snugly receive the arched upper end 4 of a card supporting frame 5 which is preferably formed of wire. The vertical legs 6V of this frame are connected nea-r their lower ends by a horizontal wire rod 7 which may be soldered or otherwise secured thereto; and the lower end of the card l is providedwith an upwardly extended tab- 8 on its rear side which engages the rear side of said rod to secure the card against the frame. The tab 8 is preferably formedV of a sheet of comparatively stiff cardboard and itfmay well be OLNrn-rV R. GILLOGLY, Y
attached to the cardl by asingle rivet or the liker 9, whereby it mayl bev swung about this rivet as a kpivot when engaging it with or disengaging it from the rod 7.
Thelower ends .of the legs 6 are adapted to be forced into the ground so that the card l may be supported at any desired conspicuous position, for instance, along ahighway or railroad track. I'Ience, the invention is well adapted for displaying posters of f numerous kinds, particularly in territoriesl having regulations which prevent tacking or pasting posters and the like to telephone poles, buildings, etc. f
As excellent results may be obtained from the simple and inexpensive construction shown, this construction is preferably followed. It is-to be understood however, that withinthe scope of the invention as claimed,
numerous minorchangesmay be made. l
llVhat I claim is:.- i
l. An advertising 'device comprising .a
card` having downwardly opening pocket at its upper end, a card support received at its upper end in said pocket, and means for j connecting the lower Aend 'ofthe card with said support adjustablyl connected withthe card and movable into and out of position for engagement withV the support.
2. An vadvertising device comprising a card having4 a downwardlyl opening pocket at its upper end and an upwardlyextending tab at its lower end, and acard supporting frame having Vits upper end received in said pocket, said frame vhaving a cross bar held against the card by said tab.
3. An advertising device comprising a. Card having its upper end folded rearwardly and downwardly and secured against the rear side ofsaid card adjacent its vertical edges, an archedA frame having its upper end andthe adjacent portion of the card, a horizontal rod extending between and secured to the legs of said arched frame, and an upwardly extending tab on the back of the card engaging the rear side of said rod.
