rares FOLDING; TABLE. v 4
Apiflitioii' flied noveiabe 17, 1922. Seria-INO. 01,527.
To'all within; it may amma-- Be it known that LTGEORGE A. C. MONROE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Geneva, in the county of Kane and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in olding Tables, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to foldable tables, and has for oneof its objects to simplify and improve the construction and increase the efiiciency and utility of devices of this character, and which may be quickly folded to occupy small space or distended for use and without detaching any of the parts.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction as hereinafter shown and described and then specifically pointed out in the claims, and in the drawings illustrative of the preferred embodiment of the invention Fig. 1 is a bottom plan view with the parts distended or in open position.
Fig. 2 is a side elevation with the parts arranged as in Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a bottom plan view with the parts partially folded.
Fig. 4 is a plan view with the parts fully folded.
Fig. 5 is an end elevation with the parts fully folded.
Fig. 6 is a struction.
The supporting framework is preferably square when the parts are in open position as shown in Figures 1 and 3, and comprises legs 10 arranged in pairs each pair of legs being coupled by rigid rail members 11, and foldably united rail members 12, the latter detail illustrating the con hingedly united at their confronting ends as at 13 and hingedly united at their outer ends to the posts 10 as shown at 14.
Hingedly united at 17 to thecenters of the rigid rail members 11 are intermediate stay members 18, the latter hingedly united at 19 and foldable upwardly when the table is collapsed as shown in Figures 4 and 5.
Hingedly united at 20 to each of the rigid rail members 11 arefouter leaf members 21, which overlap the rigid rail members 11 and the upper ends of the posts 10 and the outer portions of the foldablerail members 12 when disposed in horizontal position,-as represented in Figures 1 and 2.
Suitable means will be provided, such as bolts 22,.to hold the outer leaf members 21 in horizontal position.
Hingedly united at 23 intermediate their end to the foldable rail members 12 are other or inner leaf members 24, the latter when disposed in horizontal position bearing at their inner ends upon the intermediate foldable stay members 18 and filling the gap between the outer leaf members 21.
The various leaf members when disposed in horizontal position thus unite to form a complete top for the table, and may be of any size or outline, but will preferably be circular, as shown in Figure 1.-
Means will be provided such as stop cleats 25 attached to the leaf members 24 to project beneath the adjacent portions of the outer leaf members 21 to hold the inner leaf members from returning to vertical position.
By this simple arrangement a very complete and convenient foldable table is produced, which is strong and durable when distended, but which may be quickly c0l lapsed or folded when not in use or when being shipped or stored.
The parts may be of any suitable size or material or with the top circular, square, or oblong, as desired.
An electric battery, indicated at 26, may be. attached to one rail member 11 and connected by suitable wiring 27 to a signal bell indicated conventionally at 28 and located at any convenient point, the conductor members 27 having a suitable switch device connected therein, and preferably located on the under face of one of the leaf members 21 as indicated at 29. p
The switch member 29 will thus be located at a convenient point for use by a person sitting at the table, but will not be visible above the table.
The legs 10 are provided with suitable casters, indicated at 29'.
The top members 21 and 24 may be of marble, porcelain, wood, or other material, as preferred.
The preferred embodiment. of the invention is disclosed in the drawings and set forth in the specifications, but it will be 7 rail members, and. inner :leaf members rh-ingedly united to the hingedly united rail members. 1 v g 2. foldable table comprising supporting legs connected by rigid rail members and v hingedly united .rail members, outer leaf members hingedlyunited to therigid -rail r'members, inner leaf members hingedly united to the hingedly unitedrail members,
and intermediate stay members hingedly united; to each other and to: the rigid rail.
members -"and supporting the icontiguous ends of the inner leaf members hen disposed in horizontal position.
