UNITED STATES PATENT FFlt3E..
TABLE.
Application tiled October 1?, 1925. Serial No. 63.055.
The object of this invention is to provide a simple piece of combination furniture, namely, a table-top and four chairs, the table-top being entirely supported by the chairs in a manner to permit the chairsv to be conveniently used and manipulated, as more fully hereinafter set forth.
In the drawing- Fig. l is a perspective view of my im- W proved table;
Fig. 2 is a plan view thereof; Fig. 3 is a detail view of one of the tabletop supporting arms.
Attached to the table-top 5, on its under side, are four horizontal arms 6, one being located at a point to one side of the midlength of each of the side edges of the tabletop. The outer end of each arm is turned down to form a pivot 7 which fits down in a tubular socket 8 fastened to the left-hand upright of one of the chairs 9, each chair being supported upon a single central pedestal 10 provided with a castor 11. With this structure, it will be seen that the table-top is entirely supported by the chairs and also that the chairs are tied together in such manner that the table-top functions to hold the chairs in upright position. It will be observed also that the chairs may be swung into and out of position with respect to the table by reason of the pivotal connection of the chairs with the arms and the pivotal mounting of each chair upon a castor. Iprefer a single leg orsupport for each chair, as that insures a perfect balance for the table-top. It will be observed that the comparatively long tubular sockets 7 serve to insure the chairs being held in upright position and the table-top in a horizontal position. It will be observed further that the table-top may be readily removed from the chairs for convenience in storage and shipment.
What I claim as new is:
An article of furniture embodying a tabletop, a plurality of one-legged chairs having upright back-members, the single leg of each chair being provided with a caster. and means for entirely supporting the table-top on said chairs in such manner as to permit the chairs to be swung toward and from the table-top, said means embodying a rigid arm for each chair having its inner end affixed rigidly to the under side of the tabletop and having its outer portion projecting a considerable distance from the table-top and provided with a down-turned pintlo of considerable length, and a tubular socket of considerable length for receiving each of said pintles, each of these sockets being fastened to one of said uprights of one of the chairs, for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I hereunto afiix my signature.
HARRY E. THIXTON.
