HOG OILER.

Be it known that I, CLARENCE N. PETER- soN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Polk, in the county of Polk and Statek of Nebraska, have invented new and useful Improvements in Hog Oilers, and of which the lfollowing is a specification.

This invention relates to devices for the care and treatment of live stock and has for its object the provision of a `device adapted for location within the door-way of ay hog house whereby the hogs will in passing into and out oi the door-way be automatically sprayed with a suitable oil or chemical solution ofthe proper kind such as is found advantageous especially at-,certain seasons.-

Ain important object is the provision of a device of this character in which the operation is entirely automatic, that is in which the spraying device is actuated whenever a hog steps upon a treadle located in the door-way. l

An additional object is the provision ot a device of this character which will be simple and inexpensive in manufacture and installation, highly eiiicient in use, economical in the use of spraying solution, el'licient in service durable and a general improvement in the art.

With the above and other objects and advantages in view, the invention consists in the details of construction to be here-inafter more fully described'and claimed, andl illustrated in the in which,

'Referring more particularly to the drawings the letter A designates the door-way accompanying drawings of a hog house, shed or other places where the animals are kept and it is within this door way that my device is located. In carrying out my invention I provide a tank 10 of any suitable capacity and of any preferred material which is provided at its top with a conventional filling opening normally closed by a plug or cap 11. Leading laterally from the lower portion of this tank is a pipe 12 which is extended upwardly in spaced parallel relation tothe tank and which terminates below the top ot' the latter. Located within this pipe adjacent its .juncture with the tank is a-valve seat 13 normally closed by a ball valve 14, and the upper portion of this pipe constitutes a pump cylinder. Movable within the upper portion ot the pipe is a piston 15 carried by a piston rod 16 which extends upwardly beyond the top of the pipe 12.

Hinged at 17 upon the fioor or upon a suitable base for my device, at a point spaced considerably away from the tank 10 is' a treadle 18 which has its tree endpivotally carrying an upwardly extending rod 19' which has its upper end connecteda with the projecting upper end of the 'piston ro'd 16 by meansof a cross connection 20. Suitable guides 21 are secured upon the pipe 12V and' provided with eyes or loops for guiding the rod 19 in its movement as will be clearly seen. The numeral 22 designates 'a coil spring which is engaged against the lower one of the guides 21 and which has its upper end engaged by a washer or collar 28 on the rod 19,l the function of this spring being to hold the treadle 18 and lrod 19 normally elevated so that the piston 15 will likewise be elevated.

Leading into the lower portion of the pipe 12 between the valve seat therein and the lowermost position of the piston is a small pipe 24C which extends upwardly between thepipe 12 andthe tank and which has its upper end extended laterally als shown at 25 with its terminal depending as shown at 26 and carrying ay spray nozzle 27 located above substantially the center of lthe treadle 18. It may also be preferable or casing 28 to provide a suitable boxingl the adjacent which encloses the tank an parts as shown `so that they cannot be inhog steps uponfthe treadle 18 and de-k presses the same it will be apparent that lthe piston will be moved downwardly and this will of course torce the liquid within the lower part of the pipe l2 up into and through the small pipe 2a so that the liquid will be discharged through the spray nozzle 27 down onto the hog. It will be observed that the valve 14 operates to prevent the liquid from being forced back into the tank` lWhen the hog steps off ot the pedal and the same returns to elevated position the piston l5 will et course move upwardly and draw in another charge oi' liquid through the valve opening 14. In this way it will be seen that the action is entirely automatic and is controlled by the stepping ot' the hog upon the treadle. lt is to be noted that all the hogs are certain to be treated or sprayed with whatever liquid is desired owing to the fact that they cannot avoid stepping upon the treadle member.

While l have shown and described the preferred embodiment oi the invention, it is of course to be understood that I reserve the right to make suoli changes in the forni, construction and arrangement of parts as will not depart from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the subjoined claims.

Having thus described my invention I claim:

l. A hog treating device comprising a tank, a pipe communicating with Vthe lower portion thereof and extending upwardly whereby to constitute a pump cylinder7 an outwardly opening check valve at the juncture or' said pipe with the tank, a piston removably mounted within the pipe and having a piston rod extending above the end of the latter, a treadle hinged within the door-way oiI a hog house, a rod pivotally connected with the Jfree end of the treadle and extending upwardly above the end of said pipe and connected with said piston rod, and auspring normally holding said treadle elevated and a discharge pipe communicating with said first named pipe beyond the check valve therein and extending upwardly with its upper end laterally extended and then extended downwardly and terminating in a discharge nozzle located above said treadle.

2. A hog oiler comprising a tank having a bottom outlet, a pipe leading from said outiet and presenting a pair of branches one ot which provides a spraying element and the other constituting an oil reservoir, a check valve in the said outlet, guides carried by said oil reservoir, a treadle, a U- shaped member having one element operating within the oil reservoir as a piston and the other element movable thru the Said guides and having attachment to the said treadle, and a spring encircling the said other element between the said guides and tensioned to normally hold the U-shaped member at an elevation.
