fppication led July 25,
To @ZZ whom t may concern:
Be it known that l, ELIZABETH CALnINs,
e citizen of the United States, and a resident of St. YAloseph, in the county of Buchanan and State oi Missouri, have invented e. new and Improved Hair Curler, of which the tolle fing is e full, clear, and exact description.
Tl .ra tion relates to injipror'- heir curlers, en obje-ct of the invention being to provide e' Wire covered padded, or lzid curler as it is linorn in the nrtq with :in improved arrangement of Wire projecting through the covering and having projectlooped ends Which permit the ends of the curler to be bent over the hair after the letter is Wound on the main portion of the curler and to prevent possibility ot' entangling the Wire in the heir. further object is to provide e curler oi the character stated in which the ends of the Wire being' projected vbeyond the cov- I ering are bent backwards in general loop form and ciose against the mein portion oi'' the Wire, the .extremity of the Wire beingf enclosed in covering so thatthe Wire Will not catch in the heir, nor Will the Wire Work through and injure the cover.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in certain novel tentures of construction and combination and errengernent @t parts, as will be more fully hereinafter described and pointed out in the claims.
n the accompanying drawings- .Figure 1 is a perspective view illustrating my improved curler in operative position on the hair.
Ficure 2 is siy view in side elevation ot the curler in tiet position, 1
Figure 3 is an edge vieu7 or elevation of the. curler teken et right angles to Figure 2.
Figure 4 is e. vienT of the Wire removed.
Figure is a, view in transverse section on the line 5 5, of Figure 2.
1 represents a Wire which is ci bendeble material, and which throughout the greater portion of its length is enclosed by a covering 2, the latter being of kid, or any other suitable material having its edges secured by aline of stitching or other securing mea-ns 3. j
Serial No. 577,395.
The covering 2 meycontain padding as illustrated :it t in Figure 5, or may be variously padded, or padding may be omitted as may be desired. r
@The extremities of the Wire/1 ere bent beclrwardly and slightly' curved, forming loops 5 which project beyond the endsv oi the covering es shown clearly in Figure 2, ir'th the extreme' ends ori the Wire bent close Y. the portion ot the Wire so as to'prevent the ends oi' the Wirev from 'cutting through the covering.
',.ilbfse `loojjiefi extremities oi wire pery 65 mit e ready bending oit. the ends of the curler over the hair titer the latter has be n wound on the body oi jhe curler, es shown clearly in Figure l, and they permity e. continuel yor repeated bending operation without danger o injuring vor entengling in the heir, end Without injuring `the curler.
Various slight changes might be mede in the general form and arrangement oi' parts described without departing from my invention, end hence l do not limit ymyself to the precise details set forth, but consider niyselt et liberty to moglie such changes and alterations as teirly fall Within `thespirit end scope of the appended claims. `80
