ARTICLE-HOLDER.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ERNEST R. THoRsoN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Ephrata, in the county of Grant and State of WVashington, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Article-Holders, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to certain improvements in article holders, and it is an object of the invention to provide a device of this general character especially designed and adapted for use in connection with melons or similar produce.
Furthermore, it is an object of the invention to provide a device of this general character which may be operatively engaged with the article in a convenient manner and which will efie'ctively'snpport the same.
The invention consists in the details of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts of my improved article holder whereby certain important advantages are attained and the device is rendered simpler, less expensive and otherwise more convenient and advantaeous for use, all as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
The novel features of the invention will be carefully defined in the appended claims.
In order that my invention may be the better understood, I will now proceed to describe the same with reference to the accompanying drawings, wherein- Figure 1 is a view in perspective of an article holder constructed in accordance with an embodiment of my invention and in operative position, the article to which it is applied being indicated by dotted lines; and Fig. 2 is a view in end elevation of the handle member herein included. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of a slightly modified form of my invention which is particularly adapted to permit the carriage of small watermelons.
As disclosed in the accompanying drawings, S denotes elongated flexible metallic strips having produced in their opposite extremities the longitudinally spaced openings 1 and having struck from the intermediate portions the barbs 2 or the like which are adapted to impinge the melon and thereby assure an elfective engagement of the Specification of Letters Patent.

strips with the melon when said strips are in applied position.
H denotes a handle member, herein disclosed as comprising two twisted strands of wire of requisite gage and substantially shape in form having the base portion disposed through a hand grasp 3 of wood or other material. The extremities of the strands a are, as herein embodied, disposed at right angles to the stems of the handle H and oppositely directed and terminate in the upstanding extensions 4: to afford hook members adapted to be disposed through the openings 1 whereby it will be perceived that a melon or similar produce may be conveniently and effectively carried.
In Fig. 3 I show a slightly modified form of my invention wherein H designates the the extremities of the strands of wire which are bent downward and then longitudinally as at a", the wires then being bent laterally as at 4 in the manner heretofore described and shown in Fig. 2. The purpose of this modification is to permit the strips S (not shown in Fig. 3) to be shortened up so as to engage a small watermelon and yet not cause the extremities of the strips to interfere with the hand grasp H, thus preventing the strips from cutting the hand where the strips S project upward beyond the member II.
It will be seen that this article holder is very simple and inexpensive and very effective in use. It will be obvious that it may be modified in many ways without departing from the spirit of the invention and that I do not wish to limit myself to the precise arrangement and formation of the several parts herein shown in carrying out my invention in practice.
I claim:
1. An article holder of the character described consisting of a handle member com prising strands of material twisted one about the other, the adjacent extremities of the strands being oppositely directed to afford hooks, and elongated flexible strips, each of said strips having its extremities detachably engageable with the hooks at one end of the handle member to afford a loop.
2. An article holder of the character described consisting of a handle member comprising strands of material twisted one about the other, the adjacent extremities of the strands being oppositely directed to afford hooks, and elongatedflexible testimony whe reof Ihereiintfofaiiix my a} each of said strips having its extremities signature in the presence of two Witnesses. deta'chably engageable with the hooks at one end of the handle member to afford a loop"; THORSON' the end portions of the handle members Witnesses:
