CLAMP.

Be it known that I, FRANK G. KELLY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Montgomery, in the county of Lycoming and flltate of Pennsylvania, have invented new and useful improvements in Clamps, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to a bed clamp, the general object of the invention being to provide means for clamping together the end parts of a bed or any other article of furniture having curved parts at its ends.

Another object of the invention is to make some of the clamps adjustable so that they can be swung away from -the interior of thel clamp to permit the bed parts to be inserted or removed from the clamp device.

This invention also consists in certain otherfeatures of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts,- to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claims.

In describing my invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which Figure 1 is a side view of the invention showing a part of a bed in position therein.

Figure 2 is a plan view of Figure 1.

Figure 3 is a plan view with the bed parts removed.

Figure 4 is a longitudinal sectional view through Figure 3.

Figure 5 is a view of an article of furniture with which the device is to be used.

In these views 1 indicates a base and 2 a pair of uprights supported on the base. A side board 3 extends between the uprights and is suitably connected to one end of each upright. A pair of blocks 4 is placed against the inner face ofeach upright, these blocks having curved edges 5 which are of the same curvature as the end pieces of the end-of the bed. Small blocks 6 are placed on the upper ends of one pair of the blocks 4. Rest pieces 7 are placed on the base, the end pieces engaging the inner ends of the blocks 4. Extension pieces 8 are secured to the front edge of the base and these pieces are provided with screw threaded holes to receive the clamp screws 9 for engaging the top edge of the bed piece. each upright, each strip having` a screw threaded hole therein to receive the clamp screw 11, the upper end of which is provided with a cranked handle l2. These clamp screws are adapted to engage the edges of the curved end vpieces of the bed piece. A clamping screw 13 passes through the upright which is opposite the one against which the block 6 rests and this clamp screw is adapted to engage one end of one of the curved end pieces so as to press the two end pieces and the rail 14 of the bed piece together. The legs 15 of the bed piece engage the side board 3.

From the above it will be seen that it is simply necessary to place the different parts of the bed piece or other article of furniture in the device and then manipulate the clamp screws to press the parts together'. The article should remain in the clamp until the glue is set. Then it can be removed by loosening the clamps and swinging the strips 10 outwardly to permit the article to be lifted from the device. Figure 5 shows one end of a bed or other' article of furniture which consists of the center piece A, the curved end pieces B and the rail 14.

lt is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of my invention will be readily apparent.

I desire it to be understood that I may make changes in the constructionpand in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claims.

Vhat I claim is 1. A clamping device of the class described comprising a base, a pair of uprights, a side board extending between the uprights, supporting pieces resting upon thebase, and clamping means carried by the base and the uprights.

2. A clamping device of the class described comprising a base, a pair of uprights thereon, a side board extending between the uprights and connected with one end of each upright, supporting pieces upon the base, those adjacent the uprights having curved inner edges and clamping means carried by the base and the uprights.

3. A clamping device of the class described comprising a base, a pair of uprights thereon, a side board extending between the uprights and connected with one end of each upright, supporting pieces upon the base, those adjacent the uprights having curved inner edges, clamping means carried by the base and the uprights and means for swinging the clamping means o' the uprights ouwardly.

A clamping device of the class ydescribed comprising a base, a pair of uprghts thereon, a side piece extending between the nprights and being connected with one end of each upright, strips pvotally connected with the upper ends of the uprgl'xts, clamping screws carried by said strips, extension pieces at the front end of the base`v clamping screws carried thereby and a Clamping screw Carried by one upright.
