Description

Feb. a, 1923.
INVENTOR ATTORNEY Patented eh fi,
EDWARD D. GREGOBY, OF BINGHAMTON, NEW YORK.
DOOR FASTENER.
Application filed October 20, 1920. Serial No. 418,288.
T aZZ 'wlzom z't may camera:
Be it known that I, EDWARD D. GREGORY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Binghamton, in the county of Broome and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements n Door Fasteners, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to an improvement in door fasteners, in which a door may be securely locked without the aid of a permanent lock or catch, and it has for its object to provide a handy compact pocket de vice7 which may be carried on the person or in the bag that will efl'ectively lock and fasten a door, where there is 110 lock or bolt or the lock is broken. lVith these ob jects in view my invention consists in certain novel features of construction and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter fully described and pointed out in the claims; reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which Fig. l is an edge view of my device as applied to a door partly in cross section. Fig. 2 is a plan view of my device. Fig. 3 is a plan view of niy device partly in section. Fig. 4 is a perspective view of my device as applied to a door.
In my device I have the key plate A, having` the sharpened vertical edge 2 projecting from the end thereof, and through plate i, I have the sloping series of slots 8, 4, and 5; projectingfrom the lower end of the surface of A., I have the lugs 8, 8 between which I have mounted the pin 9, and pivotally and loosely mounted on pin 9, I have the series of key bars, 10, ll, 12, each hav ing the projecting head forn'iation 13, 13, 13 each of which head is positioned so as to be adapted to readily enter the slot opposite it or be released therefrom; in the operation I open the door B, and I then insert the sharpened Vertical edge 2, projecting from the plate A, in any convenient place in the panel C, in the doorway, crowding it into the surface by the pressure of the edge of the door, when shutting it. I then insert the key head which is adapted to enter the slot nearest the surface of the closed door B,
and thus the application of the key is readily adapted to the thickness of the door to be fastened or the position of the key in the panel C, and thus holding the door firmly and without the opportunity for play or movement, which would have a tendency to loosen my lock in the doorway. When I desire to unlock the door I remove the key head 13, from the slot in which it has entered and open the door B, and remove the key A, from its position in the door frame or panel. Thus having described my invention what I claim as new, and for which I desire Letters Patent is as follows:
l. In a door fastener aplate having a series of slots therein spaced one above the other on a diagonal line, an extension at one end of the plate out of alignment with some of the slots of the series, lugs carried by said extension, a pivoted pin mounted between the lugs and a series of key bars pivotally mounted on said pin and having` projecting' heads to engage the slots, the key bars for the slots out of alignment with the extension being Curved so as to fit in the respective slots.
2. In a door fastener, a metal plate having a series of slots therethrough spaced one above the other, on a sloping line with the least thereof, lugs projectingj from the surface at the lower end of said plate a pivot pin mounted between the same, and a series of key bars pivotally mounted on said pin, having projecting heads therein, each head adapted to removably enter the slot oppow site said head.
In testimony whereof, I have affixcd my signature.
EDWARD D. GREGORY.
