To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ELI F. BRIGKELL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Bradford, in the county of McKean and State of Pennsylvania, have invented'aVentilating-Sash Lock, of which the following is a full and complete specification.
The primary object of y invention is to provide a simple, neat and inexpensive sash- 1 0 lock comprising fixtures which may be readily and conveniently attached to theupper and lower sliding sashes of a window for securely locking them when the window is closed, and adapted also for operation to safely lock said sashes when either-one is slightly moved t'o open'the window for the purpose of ventilation. r

Fig. 6 is a vertical sectional viewithrough the locking-bar and its attaching-plate, with the locking-bar disposed in its horizontal As illustrated in the drawings my invention is applied to that conventional type of window in which are employed upper and lower sashes 10 and 11 slidable in a frame in the usual manner, and the device which I employ for locking the sashes closed or slightly open comprises a fixture or swinging locking-bar 12 pivoted at its upper end in an attaching-plate 13 fastened to a side rail 10' of the upper sash 10 and a fixture or bent plate 14 secured on the upper rail 11 of the lower sash in alinement with the aforesaid swinging-bar, so that said plate may engage against movement when the window is closed (see full lines, Fig. 3) and may also engage the inner portion or pivot end of said swing- -ing locking-bar when the latter is swung outward and the sashes moved to open the window (see dotted lines, Fig. 3); it being understood that the attaching-plate which carries the locking-bar is provided with means, hereinafter particularly described, for limiting the upward swinging movement of said locking-bar so that it,may form a stop against any further movement of the sashes with respect toeach other.
-In the present: instance the attachingsplate is provided with holes to receive the screws 15 and at its'lew erend with spaced apart cars 16, '16, forming the bearings for the swinging lockiiig-bar 12, with a transverse shoulder 1'7 between the upper part of the ears so as to limit the upward swinging movement of said bar. as indicated in Fig. 6. and I prefer to make the locking-bar or stop device, carried by this plate of a metal bar bent upon itself with the terminals 105 turned abruptly outward to form pivots or gudgeons 12 12", by which. said locking-bar is pivoted in the cars 16 of the plate. :lhe looped end of the rod forming the lockingbar is the outer end when said bar is pivoted no in the mine, "and as the rod is of spring metzil'the free endsthereof on *whichthe gudgeons are formed may be brought together in pivotally;connecting-the lockingbar to the ears on the attaching-plate.
