SAMUEL HAMM, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOR OF ONE- HALF HIS RIGHT TO SIMON'QPPENHEIMER, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN SUSPENDERS.
` Speciication forming part of Letters Patent No. ltf, dated October 28,1873; application tiled September 13, 1873.
To all Iwhom it may concern.:
Be it known that I, SAMUEL HAMM, of Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Suspenders and Braces; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact descrip tion of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use it, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, Which form part of this specification, in Which- Figs. 1 and 2 are views showing opposite sides of my invention.
The object of my invention is to provide a better and more economical back-strap for suspenders and braces than has been hitherto produced. The nature of my invention consists in cutting` out both the back-straps from a single piece of leather, leaving a tongue between them, Which is doubled over and sewed to the elastic, as hereinafter described.
Referring to the accompanying drawing, A A are elastic shoulderbands, to which the piece B is secured by stitching a a. The leather is cut so as to form 4the backst-raps b b, with a tongue, C, between them. This tongue is doubled over the elastic bands A A an d stitched, as shown by the dotted lines d a. rlhe straps b b and tongue G are cut from a single piece of leather, thus forming but one part, which may be, and in practice usually is, backedwith other material. A
By this construction the manufacture of suspenders and braces is greatly simpliied, and the cost of the saine lessened.
The ring and eyelets usually employed at the junction of the elastic and back-straps are Wholly dispensed with, and a neat, simple, easy, and cheap method of attachment substituted therefor.
It is obvious that any other suitable material may be substituted for the piece B Without departing from the spirit of my invention.
What I cla-im as my invention isl. The piece B, constructed of a single piece, as shown and described, to form the straps b b and tongue C.
2. In combination With the piece B, having the straps b b and tongue G formed of a single piece, the bands A A, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I "have hereunto set my hand this 11th day of September, 1873.
