Be it known that I, GEORGE L. EDWARDS, a citizen of the United "States, residing at Greenville in the county of Pitts and State of North arolina, have invented anew and useful Truck, of which the following is a specification. I
This invention relates totrucks, and more particularly to devices commonly known as creepers, thesame beingfespecially designed for mechanics use in repairing motor vehicles.
The primary object ofthe inventionis to provide a guard adjustably mounted on the Creeper, the guard being formed of transparent material to permit the `person using the Creeper to work with facility, and at the same timeeliminate any possibility of foreign matterl falling into the eyes of the person- Y Another object of the invention isto provide a Creeper Constructed so that the weight of the body ofthe user may be employed for tilting the 'forward portion ofthe truck to `facilitate the moving of the adjusting rollers, vforming a part of the structure, to their active position f With the foregoing and other objects in View which Awill appear as the description proceeds, the invention-resides in the combination and arrangement of `parts and in the details ofconstruction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, may bemade within thescope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invent-ion.
Referring to the drawing Figure 1 is a perspective view of a creeper Constructed in accordance with the present invention.

Referring to the drawing in detail, th Creeper embodies side bars 5 and end bars 6 which have their ends connected to the side bars in any suitable and well known manner.
The upper portion of the Creeper embodies a lplurality of spaced slats 7 which have connection with the end bars 6 as clearlyishown in Figure 1 of the drawing.
Rollers 8 and 9 respectively, are mounted under the side `bars 5 the same being secured thereto, in a manner to prevent displacement thereof, but at the same time permit of freel rotary movement ofthe rollers to facilitate the positioning of the Creeper.
As shown, the rollers 9 which are supported adjacent to the rear endof `the Creeper, are mounted in spaced relation with the rear endbar of the Creeper so that the user may, by shifting the weight of his body to a point directly over the rear end bar, tilt the forward end ofthe cree-per to a position in spaced relation with the surface on which the same is mounted, to the end that the adjusting rollers, to be hereinafter more fully described, may be moved to their adjusted positions. These adjusting rollers are indicated at 9 and are mounted on the offset portions 10 of `the axle'll, which axle is mounted in the bearings 12 that are supported on the upper surfaces of the side bars 5 of the Creeper.
A handle 13 is formed at one end of the axle 11 and provides means, whereby the axle 11 may be shifted from a position as illustrated by Figure 2 of the drawing to a position as shown by Figure `1 of the drawing, whereupon theoffset portions l() of the axle Contact with the under surface of the endbar 6 disposed atthe forward end of the Creeper, Causing theforward end of the Creeper to be raised to bringthe `person Vlying on the Creeper to a'position in closer relation with the article under operation.

An adjustable arm 15 is formed with a depending portion 16 which has openings 17 arranged in spaced relation with each other to accommodate the bolt 18, which bolt is carried by the end bar 6 at the forward end of the Creeper.
A winged nut 19 is positioned on the threaded extremity of the bolt 18 so that the arm may be clamped or secured in any predetermined position, it being understood that by moving the bolt 18 to positions within the various openings, adjustment of the arm and guard, may be had, in a vertical plane.
.it might be 'further stated that by loosening the winged nut 19, the arm l may be tilted to various angles with respect tothe body portion of the creeper so that the light rays trom the electric lamp 2U, to be hereinafter more fully described, may be projected to illuminate the Work.
A curved bar E21 embodies opposed gripping sections to accommodate one edge of the transparent guard la, as clearly shown by Figure 4lof the drawing, it being obivous however that any suitable means for attaching the guard to the arm may be resorted to, Within the scope ot the invention. in Figure 2 of the drawing, l have illustrated the preferred i'orm ot attaching means, which includes the bolt 22 that passes through a suitable opening in the curved bar Ql,`the Winged nut 23 being provided to secure the guard against movement.
The lamp is secured to the arm l5 in any suitable manner, and supplied with electric current from any suitable source or' electric supply not shown. In order that the light rays trom the lamp 20 may be reflected to illuminate the article under operation, a hood 24 is provided, which hood is disposed under the lamp to protect the eyes of the person lying on the creeper, from the light rays of the lamp.
Located on opposite sides of the creeper, are hook members 25 which accommodate the brackets 26 secured to the tray 27 which is designed to receive the nuts and bolts or tools handled by the person using the creeper. Due to the construction as described, it will be seen that the tray may be readily transferred from one side ontl the creeper to the other to facilitate its use.
It might be 'further stated that it is Within the scope oi the invention to provide a suitable head rest at the forward end ot the creeper to accommodate the head of the person lying on the creeper.
In the use of the device, a mechanic Wishing to properly locate himself under a motor vehicle or the like, lies on his bac-l on the creeper with his i'ace directly under the guard la. The person may now 'move the creeper to a proper position to work under the vehicle, the guard protecting the eyes or' the person against Yforeign matter.
lt the person Wishes to raise the orvvard end oi" the creeper, the handle 13 is operated, in a manner as previously described, Whereupcn the creeper is held against lateral movement caused by movement olf the person lying on the creeper.
keeper 28 is secured to one end or the device, and is designed to receivea portion of the handle 13 to secure the handle in its positions orI adjustment.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is l. ln a device ot the character described a body portion, a vertically adjustable arm secured at one end of the body portion, a transparent guard secured to the upper end of the arm, and said guard adapted to overlie the body portion.
2. In a device of the character described, a body portion, an adjustable arm having ronnection with the body portion, a curved transparent guard removably secured to the arm, and illuminating means disposed directly under the guard and in proximity thereto.
3. In a device ot the character described, a body portion, an arm secured at one end of the body portion, a curved bar removably secured to the upper end of the arm, a transparent guard secured to the bar, said transparent guard overlying a portion of the body portion, and means for adjustably connecting the arm to the body portion.
