C. MOORE.
CHANGEABLE SIGN.
APPLICATION FILED MAY 26, 1921.

Patented Sept.- 5, 1922.
warren s'rarss CHARLES MOORE, OF VISALIA, CALIFORNIA.
CHANGEABLE SIGN.
Application filed my 26, 1921. Serial No. 472,652.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES Moons, a citizen of the United States, residing at 'Yisalia, in the county of Tulare, State of California, have invented a new and useful Changeable Sign; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, olear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The invention relates to changeable signs and has for its ob'ect to provide a device of this character a apted to be secured at a convenient point on a house or fence, and having thereon a dot and dash signal formed by removable dove-tailed blocks, said dot and dash signal showing the call number for the house to be sounded on a horn of an automobile as they call for persons within the house. Also to provide the call sign with a call number or signal which may be changed and adapted to be sounded on an automobile horn so that when an automobile horn sounds the particular call all parties within g5 hearing of the horn will know immediately whether the call is for them or'not.
A further object is to provide a change able sign comprising a body member formed from sheet metal and bent to form a channel no spaced. from its opposite sides for the reception of removable blocks, said blocks being frictionally held in the channel. Also to provide means for securing the body member to a support, said means also forming means whereby the frictional holding of the blocks may be varied.
With the above and other objects in view the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts as hereinafter set forth, shown in the drawings, described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention may be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the o5 invention.
In the drawings Figure 1 is a perspective, view of the changeable sign.
Figure 2 is an enlarged detail sectional 0 View taken on line 2-2 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a perspective view of one of the changeable sign members.
Figure 4 is a front elevation of the sign showing the same attached to a gate post.
Referring to the drawings, the numeral 1' designates a rectangular shaped sign plate preferably formed from sheet metal. Extending longitudinally of the sign plate 1 at substantially a central point thereof is a bevelled groove 2, said groove being formed by bending the member 1 at the point 3 and 4. By so forming the bevelled groove it will be seen that when itis dovetailed, the removable sign members5 and 6 are placed within the roove 2, said sign members may be frictiona 1y held therein and by screwing inwardly or outwardly, the screws 1*,which are threaded into the posts 7, the frictional holding of the blocks 5 and 6 may be varied by longitudinally flexing the sign plate 1. It will also be seen that by bending the sign plate 1 the frictional engagement of the sign members 5 and 6 within the groove 2 may be varied.
It is the object of the invention to attach the sign to a house, or to a fence post 7 where it can be easily seen by autoists as they approach the house. As the automobilist approaches the house, he notes the sign 1, and sees that the call signal for the particular house is set up in dashes and dots on the sign. He then sounds the call signal for the particular house accordingly. For purposes of illustration a dash and four dots is shown on the sign and would be sounded by a long sounding of the horn followed by four short soundings of the horn, thereby signalling those persons within the house that someone from that particular house is wanted by persons within the automobile at the curbstone.
The invention having, been set forth is claimed as new and useful is A display sign plate for the reception of tongues of blocks, said plate being formed what ' from sheet metal and bent centrally longitudinally thereof to form a channel. for receivin the tongues of the blocks, means where 'y the sides of the plate may be secured to a a support with the bent portion 53; meesee of the sin in engagement with the sup ort In testimony whereof I have signed my and the rear face of the sign spaced rom name to this specification in the presence of the support, said securing means forming fnwo subscribing Witnesses.
means whereby the frictional holding of the CHARLES MOORE. 5 tongues of the blocks may be varied through Witnesses:
the longitudinal bending and flexing of the C. C. PnAnseN,
sign plate, J. '1. BROWN.
