Be it known that li, PETER F. AUGEN- BRAUN, a citizen of the United Sta-tes, and a resident or Stamforch in the county ot Fairield and State oit Conneeticut have invented certain new and usetul improvements in Locks; and l. do hereby declare the following` to be a i'ull, clear, and exact description oit the invention7 such as will enable others skilled in the artlto which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to improvements in locks and more particularly to the construction of a casing and Yface plate,-one object o t the invention being to provide ysimple and efficient means tor securing the front plate to the case.

TWith this and other objects in view, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction and combinations of parts as hereinafter set forth and pointed out in the claims.

in the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a sectional view of a lock casing and iront plate embodying my improvements. Figure 2 is a sectional view on the line 2-2 of Figure 1. Figure 3 is a rear view partly in section, and Figures 1, 5 and 6 are detail views.

ln the drawing, the lock casing is represented at 1 and 2 illustrates a sheet metal front plate tor the casing. This iront plate is cutaway and the metal bent inwardly to provide openings 3-11- Jor the bolts,- the latter being represented in dotted lines at 5-6. The inwardly bent portions ot' the tace plate provide clamping members, each of which consists oi tongues 7 and 8. The loclr casing is provided at its front with inwardly projecting lugs 9, each ot which is notched as at 10.

W hen the 'face plate is applied to the front ot a lock casing with the tongues composing the clamping members projecting into the casing, the free end portions ot the tongues 7 will be bent to form lips 11 which are made to engage the tree inner edges ot the lugs 9 and thus outward movement of the tace plate relatively to the lock casing will be prevented. in order etectually to prevent sliding displacement ot the tace Specification of Letters latent.

described my invention Having fully and desire to secure what l claim as new by Letters Patent, is:

1. The combination with a lock casing, ot a tace plate provided with a tongue cut from the metal or said tace plate and entering the casing and having interlocking engagement therewith.

2. The vcombination with a lock casing rovided with a front end portion and having a lug projecting into said casing rom said front end portion, of a tace plate provided witha tongue entering the casing and having locked engagement with the inner end of said lug.

3. The combination with a lock casing provided therein with an inwardly projecting lug, of a sheet metal face plate provided with an integral tongue entering said casinge said integral tongue having a lip portion engaging the it'ree end of said inwardly projecting` lug in the casing.

1. The combination with a loclr casing, of a face plate having an integral tongue engaging the lock casing, said lock casing having a notch, and a tongue projecting from the face plate and adapted to enter said notch in the casing.

5. The combination with a loclr casing provided therein with a notched lug, of a tace plate provided with two tongues to enter the lock casing, one of said tongues engaging the tree edge ot said lug and the other of said tongues engaging in the notch of said lug.

6. IThe combination with a loclr casing provided therein with a lug having a notch, of a face plate provided with two inwardly projecting tongues formed by the metal of the tace plate which is bent inwardly to form a bolt opening in the latter, one of said tongues provided at its tree edge with a lip to engage the free edge of the lug in the casing and the other of said tongues bent to enter the notch in said lug.

7. The combination with a lock casing provided therein with two lugs5 .each haw ing a notch, of a face plate, the latter being cutaway and the metal of the cutaway portions being bent inwardly forming two bolt openings, the inwardly projecting. portions of the face plate constituting two vclamping members each comprising two tongues, one tongue o each pair having alip to engage the free edge of the adjacent lug in the casing, and the other tongue of each pair
