Description

J. MEISNER. SAFETY PURSE.
APPLICATION FILED MAY 2 1921.
1,425,889 Patented Mg; 15; 1922.
fosepfifietbfler Y INVENTOR BY WM J'OSEPH MEISNER, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
SAFETY PURSE.
Application filed May 2, 1921.
i '0 (ZZZ whom it may concern:
I Be it known that I, Josnrrr Mnrsrrnn, a citizen of the Republic of Austria. having declared my intention to becomea citizen of the United States, residing at New York city,in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Safety Purses of which the following is a specification.
This invention has relation to pocket books or the like, and has for an object to provide a pocket book or purse and a fasten-- ing means such as a strap designed to be secured within the pocket of a garment with means for releasably attaching the purse to the strap so that the purse may not be withdrawn from the pocket without detaching the same from the strap thus providing a safety means to prevent loss of the purse or pickpocketing.
In addition to the foregoing this invention comprehends improvements in the details of construction and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter described and particularly set forth in the appended claims.
In the accompanying drawings in which similar and corresponding parts are designatcd by the same characters of reference throughout the several views in which they appear.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a garment exposing the interior of a pocket and my safety purse located therein.
Figure 2 is a View in edge elevation of: the purse and securing strap, and
Figure 3 is a view in plan of the purse spread open to show the construction.
Nith reference to the drawings 10 indicates a nether garment such as trousers and 11 indicates a pocket therein. A pair of buttons 12 and 13 are sewed to the inner side of the pocket at the top and bottom as shown in Figure 1 and an opening 14: is provided in the wall of the pocket and its edges reinforced similar-to a button hole. A strap 15 is provided having a button hole at each end. The strap is inserted through the opening 14 and the upper end secured upon the button 12 while the lower end is secured upon the button 13. At 16 there is shown a pair of receptive members of snap fasteners which are mounted in openings in the strap 15. The purse is indicated generally at 17 and comprises a rectangular piece of material 18 and oppositely extend- Specification of Letters Patent. Pat-miter} A 0 Serial No. 466,138.
ing flaps 19 and 20 formed at the long sides of the portion 18.
A securing flap 21 is stitched to one end of the portion 18. In assembling the purse the flap 19 is folded over the portion 18 and the flap 20 then folded over the flap 19. A receptive member 22 of a snap fastener is mounted in the flap 20 to engage one or the other of a pair ofpenetrated members 23 mounted on the flap 19. One end of the portion 18 is then folded over said flaps and finally the other end wrapped around the purse and a receptive member 24 provided in the flap 21 secured upon a penetrated member 25 mounted in the middle of the portion 18. Mounted upon the flap: 21 is a pair of penetrated members 26 to be used in connection with the members 16 mentioned above whereby the purse may be attached to the strap as shown in i ure 2.
In use the purse is inserted in the pocket and the fasteners 16 and 26 connected. In this manner the purse is securely attached to the strap which can not be de tached in view of the fact that the upper end is secured to a button outside of the pocket but on the innerside of the garment. To a person familiar with the use of this arrangement the'jpurse may be readily attached or detached to the strap.
While I have illustrated and described my invention with some degree of particularityq I realize that in practice various alterations therein may be made. I therefore reserve the right and privilege of changing the form of the details of construction or otherwise altering the arrangement of the correlated parts without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the appended claims. 9
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent is 1. In a garment having a pocket provided with a pair of openings, one or"- which communicates with the exterior of the garment and the other communicating with the interior of the garment, a. pair of securing devices, one upon the inside and one upon the outside of the pocket, a flexible element extending through the interior opening oi? the pocket and having its ends attached to the securing devices a purse and means for attaching the purse to the flexible element.
2. In a garment having a pocket provided attaching the purse to the flexible member with an interior opening and an exterior Within the pocket, and means for fixing the opening, e flexible member passing through interior end of the flexible member to ihe 10 the interior opening and having an eyelet interior 01" the pocket.
5 on its exterior encl, means attached to the in- In testimony whereof I my signature.
terior of the garment for receiving the eyelet of the flexible member, a purse, means 501' JOSEPH MEI SNERE
