SAMUEL WILLIAMS, 0F TOLEDO, OHIO.
PAPER HOLDER.
Application filed December 12, 1921.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SAMUEL W ILLrAMs, a citizen of th United States, and a resident of Toledo, in the county of Lucas and State of Ohio, have made an Invention Appertaining to Paper Holders; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, refercnce being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the characters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
My invention has for its object to provide a paper holder to which the newspaper. periodical or magazine may be readily attached, and which provides a means for for holding the sheets of paper in position on the holder.
Constructions containing the invention may be modified as to their details. To illustrate a practical application of the invention I havev selected a. construction containing the invention and shall describe it hereinafter. The structure selected is illustrated in the accompanying drawings.
Figure 1 of the drawings is a perspective view of the holder. Fig. 2 is an end view of a part of the holder.
1. is a wire frame formed substantially B- shape, that is connected to a tubular member 2 by solder or spot welding or by any suitable means. Transverse wires 3 extend across the frame to sustain the central portions of newspaper when it has been placed on the frame. The tubular member 2 is provided with a slot 4 and. a rod 5 is pivotally connected to the upper end of the tubular member and so as to have some loose play at the point of connection between the rod and the tubular member. The slot 4 extends the length of the tubular member and the rod 5 may be inserted within the tubular member by passing through the slot 4. The rod 5 is preferably longer than the tubular member so that its lower end extends beyond the end of the tubular member when the rod 5 is placed within the tubular member. The lower end of the tubular member 4 is provided with a transverse wall 6 having a recess 7 that registers with the slot 4.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 18, 1922.
Serial No. 521,593.
The wall 6 is located near the lower end of th tubular member. The rod 5 is threaded at its lowerend 8 and is provided with a thumb nut or knurled burr 9. lVhen, therefore, the rod 5 is placed within the tubular member 2 it may be looked therein by rotating the burr on the threaded end 8 until the burr enters the lower end of the tubular member. The wall 6 provides a stop so as to clamp the rod in position and prevent any loose play of the rod.
A newspaper or periodical may be placed across the tubular member and then the rod 5 may be placed within the tubular member, forcing the paper through the slot 4. The burr 9 may then be screwed up on the rod until it enters the lower end of the tubular member and clamps against the wall 6. The paper will thus be held to the frame. In order to hold the sheets of paper in any position to which they may be turned. a double or slotted bar 10 may be secured to the upper end of the frame 1 as in the eye 11. The bar 10 may be formed by a heavy loopedwire, the ends of which are twisted together to form the handle 12. A spring clip 13 may be secured to the lower end of the frame for engaging and holding the bar 10 in position on the frame.
The leaves of the paper or periodical may be placed against the frame and the rod 10 rotated in the eye 11 and thus placed on the outside of the leaves or sheets of the paper or periodical, and thus: the leaves will be held in position on the frame.
The frame may be provided with a handle 14 for convenience of handling the frame.
I claim:
In support for newspapers and the like, a frame having a slotted tubular member, a rod pivotally connected. to one end of the slotted member, a burr threaded on one end of the rod and adapted to enter the other end of the tubular member, a pivoted slotted bar supported on the frame and extend ing on opposite sides of the frame, a catch for engaging the slotted bar for holding it in position.
In testimony whereof, I have hereunto signed my name to this specification.
SAMUEL WILLIAMS.
