PATENT OFFICE.
SVEND HANSEN, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
\ BOTTLE car.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Svsxn HAxsEx,'a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Bottle Caps; and I do hereby declare the following, when takenin connection with the accompanying drawings and the characters of reference marked thereon, to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, and which said drawings constitute. part of this application, and represent, in
Fig. 1 an inside. view of a bottle cap constructed in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 a sectional view on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1. F
Fig. 3 aperspective view of the metal Fig. 4 a perspective view of the cork disk detached. V p v This invention relates to an improvement in bottle caps, and particularly to caps which are formed from metal and adapted to be clamped over the neck of a bottle to Securely close the same. These stoppers generally include a disk of cork, so that a tight closure is provided for the bottle, but in preparing these. corks for use, various chemicals are employed which, in some cases, as for instance in bottled waters, are
liable to aflect the contents. To avoid this tached to the cork by an adhesive material, but if the disk becomes accidentally removed, the adhesive material simply adds .one element of contamination.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 18, 1922.
Application filed September 13, 1921. Serial No. 500,408.
7 The object of this invention is to provide ametal covering for the exposed portion of the cork, and the invention consists in the 4 construction as hereinafter described and particularly recited in the claim.
In carrying out my invention, I employ a metal bottle cap 5 of usual construction,
which is adapted to be clamped over the 4 neck of a bottle. In this cap is a ring'6 of cork, into the center of which I insert a cup 7 of metal corresponding in depth to the thickness of the cork, so as to bear on the inner face of the cap, and the cup is provided with a flange 8 overlapping the edge of the cork, but'smaller in diameter than the diameter of the cork, so that the cork will bear upon the edge of the bottle to which thecap is applied. These cups are formed from very thin metal struck'up in automatic machines and readily applied to the corks, and when applied are not liable to become accidently detached, and cover the exposed portion of the corks, so that the 6 contents of the bottle cannotcome in contact therewith.
I claim: The comblnation of a metal bottle cap with a ring of cork inserted therein, and a metal cup inserted into the center of the cork to bear against the inner face of the capand formed with a flange overlapping the inner edge of the faceof the cork.
