Application filed October' 3, 1921.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALEssANDRo Portillo, a citizen of Italy, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York. have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bassinets, of which the following is a specication.
My said invention relates to a bassinet or cot designed particularly for the use of infants and constructed so that it may readily be taken down and stored in a small space. Due to such construction it may conveniently be stored or transported from place to place as required.
It is an object of the invention to provide a knock-down bassinet which shall be readily assembled or taken apart and which shall be simple and inexpensive while at the same time it shall be strong and secure when assembled.
Referring to the accompanying drawings which are made a part hereof and on which similar reference characters indicate similar parts,
Figure 1 shows my invention in side elevation,
Figure 2 is an end view,
Figure 3 a plan,
Figure 4 is a detail of a part of the same,
Figure 5 shows the parts knocked down as for shipment, and
Figure 6 is a modified form of the device.
In the drawings there is shown a supporting frame having side members 10. These members are hollow and are connected at their upper ends by a U-shaped member 1.1 extending downwardly into the openings in the side members. At the lower end a similar U-shaped member 12 is inserted in the hollow side members and held in place by set screws 13. These set screws are located at the upper extremity of a pair of supporting structures best shown in Figure 2. Each of them consists of a ring 14 and a pair of laterally extending feet 15 preferably having casters at their lower extremity. The rings are perforated to receive the U-shaped members 12 and the side members 10 rest at the lower extremity on the surfaces surrounding the upper perforations in rings 14.
Each of the side members 10 carries a pair of brackets 16, these brackets having upwardly extending hooks for supporting the basket between the uprights. In the pre- Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 11, 19592.
Serial No. 505,055.
ferred form the basket comprises three rings 17, 1S and 19 located in vertically spaced planes, the rings being connected bv a network of strong cord and such cord als) forming the bottom of the basket as shown in Figure Rings 1T and'ltl have fastened` thereto devices 20 for attachment of cords 21 each of these cords extending at its middle portion from a hook on a bracket 1G. The upper ring may be unfastened to allow 'tree access to the basket or its occupant and may be replaced only for safety in the absence of the attendant.
To keep away flies and mosquitoes I have preferably covered the whole'with an enclosing curtain of mosquito bar or other thin fabric supported on rings on the upper portion of the U-shaped member. and having an opening at the front permitting the curtain to be pushed back and out of the way. The
upper corners of the fabric adjacent the opening are supported by rings 22 to permit a slight separation of the said upper corners when the curtain is open.
It will be seen that the entire device can be taken apart with a minimum ot labor since it is only necessary in order to take the device apart to loosen the set screws 13. The basket can be taken oil the hooks and collapsed, or the upper ring 17 can be allowed to rest on the ring 18 to make the basket shallower if desired.
In Figure 5 I have shown the device knocked down as for shipment or storage, members 10, 11 and 12 being arranged at the outer edges of the figure. The basket with its rings 17 and 19 lies within the outY line formed by the first mentioned parts and the supports lie upon the ring 19 and within the outline of ring 17.
Figure 6 shows a modied form of the device in which 22 is a U-shaped upright extending at its ends down through apertured enlargements 23 in rings 14 each having feet 15', these parts being similar to the foot structures previously described. A basket is suspended from the upright 22. This basket comprising a lower ring 24 and an upper ring 25 which may be connected by netting or may be provided with sides and bottom in any other convenient manner. This modification is intended to provide a very simple and inexpensive bassinet for those preferring it.
lt `will be obvious that other modifications may be made in the structure shown and described Without departing from my invsention, the true scope of which is indicated by the appended claims.
Having thus fully described my said invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
l. A knock-down bassinet comprising basket and a supporting `frame therefor, said trame having a pair of parallel uprights and a pair ot oppositely directed U-shaped holding members therefor above and below the basket, substantially as set forth.
2. ln a knock-down bassinet, a basklet and a supporting 'frame therefor, said trame lcomprisinOp a pair o'f tubular uprights each resting' on a supporting structure and a U- shaped member extending through the supporting structure and into the lower end of each side member, substantially as set forth.
3. A knock-down support for sleeping devices comprising side members, foot structures therefor, each foot structure including a ring` having vertically spaced pei'iiorations and a U-shaped member extending through said perforations and into the side members, substantially as set forth.
4. A foot structure for beds comprising a ringhaving vertically spaced alined perlforations, Yfeet extending laterally and down- Wardfrom the ring and a U-shaped spacing n rality ot' vertically spaced rings connected to diiferent sets oi' brackets and a net-work connecting said rings, substantially as set forth.
7. In a sleeping device,v a supporting frame and a basket supported thereby, said basket comprising a plurality of vertically spaced supporting rings individually con` nected to the frame and a netework connecting said rings and tormingthe sides and bottom oli' the basket, substantially as set forth.
In witness whereof, l have hereunto set my hand and seal at New York, New York, this twenty eighth day of September, A. D. nineteen hundred and twenty-one.
