UNITED srarss GEORGE PUIiLMAN, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
'IIlrIE RECORD ER.
.v Specification of Letters Patent. PatentedJuly 11 1922,
Application filed April 5, 1921. Serial No. 458,797.
. To all whom it may cmwera: I
Be itknown that I, Grocer. PULLMAN,-L citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county of New York, State of New York, have invented a new and useful Time Recorder; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description ofthe invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The invention relates to time recorders and has for its object to provide a device of this character, which may be attached to a door and operated each time a lock carried by the door is unlocked or locked, and the time of looking or unlocking the door lock, recorded ona time controlled dial. Also to provide means whereby the recording device may be operated by a watchmans key independently of the door lock, thereby recording the exact time the watchman inspected the door on his rounds.
A further object is to provide a rockable member having a piercing point at one of its ends, said rockable arm being normally held outwardly at its upper end by a weight carried by its lower end below its pivotal point, and rocked inwardly when the lock is locked or unlocked, or when the watchmans key is turned by a. laterally movable member which .IIIOVG'S outwardly and engages the lower end of the pivoted arm, thereby forcing its upper end inwardly for recording the time on a time controlled disc. Also to provide a pivoted member having a plurality of spaced arms, between which arms the pivoted time recording arm rocks, said spaced arms forming means whereby the pivoted arm which is slidably mounted on a shaftmay be positioned for, piercing the recording dial at various points spaced from its center, thereby allowing the same recording dial to be used for a number of days, for instance for a week.
With the above and other objects in view, y
the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts as hereinafter set forth, shown in the drawings, described and claimed, it being understood that changes In the drawings I igure 1 is a front elevation of the recording device, showing the cover thereof open to better illustrate the structure.
Figure 2 is a top plan view of the time recording device, part being broken away to show the meansior detach-ably securing a time recording device to the inner "face of a doorl i 1 Figure 3 is a side elevation of the device showing the same attached to adoor and showing parts partly in section to better illustrate the structure.
Figure 4 is'a perspective view of the guide bracket for guiding the laterally movable operating plate outwardly.
Figure 5 is perspective view of the operating arm which is engaged by a vertically movable member operated by the lock or by a watchmans key. I
Referring to the drawings, the numeral 1 designates a portion of a conventional form of door and 2 the free edge of said door. The door 1 at its free end swings outwardly from the vertical side '3 of a conventional side of door frame 4:. Secured to the door 1 in any suitable manner is a lock 5, which look has outwardly extending apertured lugs 6, which interengage withapertured lugs 7 of a keeper plate 8 carried by the vertical side 3 of the door frame, and with said apertured lugs the vertically disposedportions 9 of a keeper 10, which also moves vertically when the lock is unlocked or locked, cooperate. The lock 5 may be provided with any suitable mechanism for moving the keeper-1O upwardly or downwardly and may be controlled by a' key 11. Ex
tending upwardly, from the upper side or the keeper 10 isa vertically disposed shaft 12, the upper end of which is provided with a horizontally disposed head 13, which head is moved upwardly when the lock is locked and downwardly when the same is unlocked.
Secured tothe rear face 14 of the door 1 is a plate 15, which plate at its lower end and sides is provided with channels 16 and 17, in which channels the flanges 18 of the time recording device 19 engage and is held, said time device 19 being held against upward movement by the pivoted dog 20, the lug 21 of which cooperating with a slot 22 in the plate 15. Disposed within the time controlled movable disc, the lower end of said recorded arm being weighted, said weighted end forming means for normally holding the upper end of the recording arm outwardly, a horizontally disposed plate carried by the casing, means whereby said 7 plate will move outwardly when moved in one direction for engaging the rockable recording arm and inwardly when moved in the other direction, spring means for normally holding said plate in its inner position and 7 means for moving saidplate longitudinally and outwardly against the action of the spring means during a recording operation.
2. A time recording device comprising a casing, a time controlled movable disc'carried by said casing, avertically disposed and horizontally pivoted recording arm carried by the casing, the upper end of said recording arm being provided with a piercing member adapted to cooperate with the time controlled movable disc, a horizontally disposed longitudinally and out- 3. The combination with a time recorder comprising a time controlled movable disc and a horizontally pivoted and horizontally movable recording arm, of means for holdmg sald recording armin varlous positions, said. means comprislng a hinged plate having a plurality of spaced teeth adapted to have disposed therebetween the recording arm.
4. The combination with a time recorder comprising a time controlled movable disc and a pivoted recording arm pivotally mounted and longitudinally movable on a shaft, of means for holding said recording arm in various positions on the shaft, said means comprising a toothed plate disposed adjacent the shaft and between the teeth of which the recording arm may be disposed.
5. The combination with a time recorder comprising a time controlled movable disc and a pivoted recording arm pivotally mounted and longitudinally movable on a shaft, of means for holding said recording arm in various positions on the shaft,. said means comprising a spring actuated toothed plate disposed adjacent the shaft and between the teethof which the recording arm may be disposed.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses. r I
