H Ell",
awson Application filed October 22,
Be it known that I, MiL'ron MEsnRoLE,
a citizen of the United States, residing at Milford, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Hair Curlers, and I do hereby declare the following, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings and the characters ofj reference marked thereon, to be a'full, clear, and exact description of the same, and which said drawings constitute part of this application, and represent, in- 1 Fig. l, a plan view of a hair curler constructed in accordance with my invention Fig. 2, aside view'ofthe same, Fig. 3, a sectional view on the 4, a side view of the device with the tenslon in its openfposition, showing it turned in opposite directions by broken lines.
This invention relates to improvement in line 3 3 of hair curlers, and particularly to curlers.
which are formed from metal, theobject of the invention being a simple arrangement of parts which can be readily formed in auto-I matic machines and which is especially con'' venient for use, and the invention consistsin the construction and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter described and particue In carrying out my 1nvention, Ifpreferably form the frame from a strip of wire,
the central-portion of'which forms arrears bar 5, from which sides -6 and 7 project, the ends 8 and 9 being turned inward to meet and form a rectangular frame. The tongue is formed from a Single piece of wiredou-f bled at the center to form a tip 10, the ends I of the-tongue being formed with eyes 11 and 12 which are bent around the bar 5. The tip-'- 10 is flattened, as are also the adjacent portions of the side bars 6 and 7, and folded around the side bars at the flattened portions is a slide 13 formed from a strip of metal folded into box shape, with a centrally arranged lip 14:, which is turned in-.' v

Patented ma 1 ,1922; 1921. Serial No. 509,666. i I I ward between the bars 6 and 7, this slide I being adapted to move on the bars and pass over the tip 10, so as to hold the tip between the bars. It is obvious that the member may be struck upfrom sheet-metal if desired. r
It will be noted that in this construction, the tongue may swing in either directlon, so
that inuse it is not" necessary to hold the device in one particular position. The use of these devices is too well known to, re-- 7 quire description. It will be seen that the parts 'of thedevice are readily formed and assembledby'automatic machinery, so they can be produced at a very low cost, and as 3 the tongue is firmly locked in the frame,
danger of disengagement is avoided. It will" I be understood that the frame and tongue are formed from spring metal, so as to; give the necessary tension and yield when a mass of v hair is wound upon, them.
I claim:- 1. A- hair ,curler, comprlsing a frame,v
provide a; rear bar and two. sides, the ends of the wire'turned inward, a tongue hlnged to the said rear bar, and a slide mounted on formed. from a single piece of wire'bent to j.
2. A hair ,curler comprlsing,-;a' framev formed from a single piece of wire bent to;
provide a rear bar, a tongue formed from a single piece of wire, the ends of which are hinged to the said rear bar, thesides of the frame and the tip of the tongue flattened,
of the frame and adapted to extend over the tip of the tongue, the saidslide also formed with a lip projecting inward between the sides of the frame.
and a-slide mounted on the flattened portion 7 In testimony whereof, I have signed this I pecification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses. I 1 MILTON D. MESEROLE.
