Brunson", citizens ot the United States, residing at Cambridge, in the county oif Dane and State oil lVisconsin, have invented new and useful Improvements in Conveying Apparatus, oii which the `tollowing is a specification.

The apparatus which is the subject matter oi. the present application for patent has been designed to facilitate the removal ot manure and litter from barns, stables etc., and it consists of a receptacle which removably seated in the usual gutter oi' the barn floor, and connected to an elevating and co veying apparatus. whereby said re ceptacle .may be easily conveyed to the out-V side of' the barn. or other structure and dilmped into a manure spreader, or piled up for future hauling.

In order that the` invention may be better l'lnderstood. reference is had to the accompanying drawing, forming a partI o'f this specification, and in said drawing,

Referring specifically to the drawing, 0 denotes the floor of a barn, stable or similar structure, provided with a Igutter 11v to roceive the manure, litter etc. As the rei'noral ot the contents of the gutter involves much work, there is provided a receptacle 12 which is removably seated in the gutter and connected to an elevating and conveying apparatus. This receptacle is made of sheet metal or other suitable material and it is dimensioned to extend throughout substantially the entire length of the gutter, so that the material does not enter the gutter but is discharged into the receptacle only, in view of which its disposal is readily effected. said receptacle being removably positioned in the gutter and connected to the elevating and conveying apparatus to be presently de scribed. In view of the length of the receptacle, it is braced at intervals by cross angleV irons 13. If the gutter is of such length as to make a single receptacle impractical, the receptacle may be made in sections.

The elevating and conveying' apparatus hereinbciore referred to comprises the fol lowing parts:

To the ceiling or rafters of the barn, or to any other suitable overhead support is attached a track 17 running the entire length of the gutter l1 and extending to the outside of the barn into the yard where the litter or manure is to be dumped, either onto a manure spreader, or a pile for future haullng.

On the track 17 is mounted 'for travel thereon, a carriage composed of two longitudinally spaced wheels 18 carrying a longitudinal beam 19 composed oi? a number of telescopically connected tubular sections which are locked together by set screws 20. The beam is therefore adjustable as to length according to the length of the receptacle 12. The wheels 18 are provided with suitable supporting trames 2l carrying depending hangers 22 which support'n the beam 1 9.

The ends of the beam 19 are dov."nturned,

as shown at 23, and at the bottom-said down locked in adjusted position by set screws 27,

so that adjustment to conform to the length of the beam 19 may be made.

One end of the shaft or drum 25 is provided with a crank handle 28 for operating the same to Wind up and unwind the lines 26. The crank handle carries a locking pin 29 adapted to be inserted into a hole in the adjacent end portieri 23 of the beam 19, and thus hold the shaft or drum from turning to allow the lines 26 to unwind when the receptacle 12 has been elevated to conveying position.

The free ends of the chains 26 carry bear-A ing members 3l and 32, respectively, into which the trunnions 14 and l5 are adapted to be inserted for connection of the recep tacle 12 With the elevating and conveying means. In order to prevent the receptacle from tilting and thus spilling the load While it is being elevated and conveyed to the dumping place, the bearing member 3l carries a pivoted latch lever 33 which is adapted to be seated in a keeper recess 34 in the end of the trunnion 14. When the receptacle reaches the dumping placeLthe latch lever is swung out of the keeper recess, whereupon the trunnions are left free to turn in the bearing members, and the receptacle new turns over or rotates to dump its load.

-We claim:

1. The combination with a receptacle; of a conveyer mounted for travel above the receptacle, and elevating means for the re eeptaele having a detachable connection therewith and 'supported by the conveyer, said ,elevating means including hoisting lines, bearings carried by the free ends of said lines, the receptacle having 'trnnnions at its ends adapted to be reinm'ablyv seated in said bearings, one of the trnnnions having a keeper recess, and a latch lever carried by one of the bearings and adapted to seat in said recess.

2. The combination with a receptacle; of' an overhead track, a convey/er carriage coinposed of a pair of longitudinally spaced Wheels, supporting' frames for said wheels, and a beam supported by said trames, said beam being composed of sections which are adjustable as to length. a winding,r drinn composed ot sections which are adjustable as to length, bearings .tor said drinn carried by the aforesaid beam, hoisting lines connected to the drum, and means for detaehably connecting said lines to the receptacle.
