' HOMER H. JUSTICE AND HUGHJ. immrntrn or PASA E A,"oAprroimin sucker nrriic mnn'ri i To all whom it may concern 7 Be it known that we, HOMER H. JUSTICE and HUGH J. BENNETT, citizens of the United States, residing at Pasadena, in the county of Los Angeles and State of California, have inventednew and useful Improvements in Bucket Attachments, of which the following is a Specification.
It is the object of this invention to provide an attachment for a bucket or the like adapted to support a paint brush or similar article when the same is not in use. The invention contemplates the provision of such an attachment readily mounted upon a bucket and as readily removed therefrom, and also provides means whereby the attachment may be swung downwardly into inoperskive position within the bucket when the latter is being transported, and maybe quickly swung upwardly into position for use.
The invention will be readily understood from the following description of the accompanying drawings, in which 1 Figure} is a perspective viewof a bucket having the attachment mounted'thereon and swung into position for use. Fig. 2 is a'similar view showing a portionof the bucket and the attachment swung into inoperative position within the bucket.
Fig. 3 is a vertical section through the bucket and through the attachment, showing the latter in its operative position.
Fig. 4 is a detail section on the line 4-4 of Fig. 3.
The attachment may be mounted upon a usual bucket 1 having a rim 2 and provided with a usual handle 3.
The attachment comprises a supporting plate 4, preferably rectangular. This sup-- porting plate may be formed of sheet metal and is provided atthree of its sides with a strengthening rib '5 formed by bending the edge of the metal upwardly, as shown at 6,"
and then reversely bending the same upon itself, as shown at 7, so as to form astrengthening ribextending beyond both faces of the supporting plate. The fourth sidefiof the supporting plate is formed as a'straight edge 8, and when the plate is supported upon the bucket this straight edge extends within the bucket .while: the flanged side edges at the respective ends of the straight edge rest upon the rim of the bucket, as clearly shown in Figs. 1 and 3, so that the FFW Specification of Letters Patent-i i; I I "Application filed January 241921. s e K014345315.
supporting plate is held against rocking the the exterior surface ofthe bucket, and the other arm 12 of the "clip positioned against the interior surface of the bucket.
At the lower end of arm 12 of the spring clip a supporting arm 13jis hinged tothe same, as shown at 14,and the end of this o supporting arm is angularly disposed, as
shown at 15, so as to form a base which is connected to ;the under side of the supporting plate. 3
By the arrangement as thus described it will be seen that when the spring clip. is mounted upon the bucket that supporting arm 13 may be swung back against the spring clip, as shownin 'Fig. 3, and when in this' position supporting plate i extendsover the like resting upon the supporting plate is so positioned that the drip from thesame will return to the bucket. 1
' rim of the ucket so'that a brush or the: y I I Then the supportingplate is noty-in use 3 the arm 13 is swung downwardly'within the bucket, as shown in Fig. 2, so thatthe supporting plate is received entirely within the bucket, and in such a position as, to not interfere with theready transportation of the bucket. i
In order to positively retain a brush or th like upon the supporting plate, the latter may be provided with rivets 20 projecting through the same and terminating in rear-. wardly inclined prongs projecting beyond the supportingplate. By this construction a brush upon the supporting plate will be held against displacement through engages ment with the prongs, even when the supthe bucket. o
It will be apparent that various changes-i may be made in the construction-as thus described, without departing from the spiri of the invention as claimed.
What is claimed is:
1. The combination with-a supporting clip upon the rim thereof, a sup, porting arm pivoted to said clip, and a supporting plate mounted at its underside. upon said arm and having an edge flange resting bucket, of a V against the bucket rim when the plate and arm are swung to operative positiQn. vj
2. The combination with bucket of a supportii'igplate, a spring clip received over the rim of said bucket, an arm hinged tothe f spring clip at the lower inner end of the latter and carrying the supporting plate,
said arm being arranged to swing from p0- h sitidn alongside of said spi'ing clip with the supporting pi ate resting upon the rim of the 10 bucket to a position Within the bucket and -with the supporting plate extending sub- Within the g stan'tially vertically downward bucket.
