PORTABLE SEAT.
Application filed March 6, 1916.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GrrAnLns BAUER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cleveland, in the county of Cuyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Portable Seats, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to portable seats, and has for its object to provide an improved seat or stool particularly adapted and intended for the use of spectators at games, campers, hunters, and the like.
The device comprises a seat, and a post for supporting the same, the post being detachable from the seat, and the latter being provided with devices for attaching the post thereto, so that all the parts can be conveniently carried by one hand.
In the accompanying drawings Figure 1 is a perspective View showing the bottom of the seat.
Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the seat set 11 9.
Fig. 3 is an edge View showing the manner of attaching the post. 7
Referring specifically to the drawings, 6 indicates a seat or board which may be made of wood or other suitable material. At one edge it has a handle 7, to carry it by. Secured to the under side of the seat is a threaded socket 8 which receives the up per threaded end of the post 8, the lower end of which is notched as shown at 13. The post 8 has a union or collar 9 adapted to form a stop for a Washer 10 which may be slipped on the post, and in soft ground i this washer will afford a broad support to prevent the post settling into the ground. For transportation, the post is unscrewed Specification of Letters Patent.

from the socket, and is attached to the under side of the seat by inserting one end thereof under a staple 11, and engaging the notched end with a headed pin 12 on the seat. The washer 10 is hung on a hook 1 1 on the bottom of the seat. The staple 11 is made of spring metal, and the post has a pin 8 in the side thereof. When engaging the post, the pin is pressed against the staple, bending the latter sufficiently to allow the notched end of the post to be engaged under the headed pin 12, and the spring pressure of the staple then holds the post against thepin and prevents accidental dislodgment thereof.
The device may be easily set up and taken down, and when the parts are detached as shown in Fig. 1 it can be easily transported from place to place. I
What I claim as new is:
1. The combination of a seat and a detachable post, the latter having a notch in one end, a staple on the seat, engageable with one end of the post, and a pin on the seat, engageable in the notch.
2. The combination of a seat, a detachable post having a projecting pin, a spring staple on the under side of the seat, to re-' ceive one end of the post, with said pin pressing against the staple, and a pin on the under side of the seat, with which the other end of the post is engageable.
In testimony whereof, I do aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
CHARLES BAUER.
Witnesses JOHN A. BOMMHARDT, CHARLES E. BOWMAN.
