iaiiaesa ne of the objects of the invention is toV provide a highway guide post by means of which a vast amount of detailed information, pertaining to the location in which the post is situated, characteristics of the contiguous country through which the designated routes pass and distances to the adjacent towns, villages, cities reached thereby, reciting the location of garages, hotels, and addresses of physicians, highway superintendents, magistrates, and other persons and things of interest toa travelling Astranger in a strange neighborhood is available.

Another object-is to provide a highway guide post. in which a series of printed cards n containing desired information are .housed and protected from weather, but readily available when required.

Another object is the provision of a highway guide post havingcard holding means normally within a housing which may conveniently be moved outside the housing for inspection and which will automatically re.- turn to therhousing when released.

Another object is to provide in adevice of the character described a rotatable housing, to contain miscellaneous information, that may readily he moved on its aXis for more convenient inspection of the subject matter ofthe cards therein. Y

Other, further and more specific objects of the invention will become readily appar-v ent to persons skilled in the art, from a consideration of the following description, when taken in conjunction with the drawings, wherein Fig. 1 is a central vertical section of the device showing one of the frames moved to a position with the information card on the outside of the housing for convenient inspection.

Fig. 2 is a transverse section taken on yline 2-2 of Fig. 1.

In the-drawings 3 is a post to be placed in the ground at selected locations along a highway, and particularly is it designed to be used at the points where highways cross, as a means for furnishing information to travelers along-either one of the highways.

Fixed to the upper central portions of the inclined part 10 are sign boards 13 and 14 bearing the route numbers and the directions with respect to the point at which the device is located. One of these signs will bear the route number together with the word North and the one on the opposite side with bear the same route number with the word South, whereas those that are arranged at right angles will bear .the respective number of another route with the words East and Vilest, respectively. Each of the panels consists of a rectangular frame 22, having side members 23 and 23', each of which is provided with a trunnion 24;, 24C', located above the center of gravity'of the panel or closure and in horizontal planes, so that Vwhen the door is swung outwardly, as shown in Fig. 1, it will automatically moveV back into closed position when released. Between the members of the frame 22 is .contained'a plate 25, which may be of steel, or other suitable material, andyin the rear of the plate, in suitable channels, is located a krenewable card 26, fixed in place by a strap 27 secured to one member of the frame, so as to hold the card in place.
