GAME.
Specioation of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 21, 1922.
To all lwhom it may concern.'
Be it known that I, JOHN W. HALL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Springfield, in the county of Greene and State of Missouri, have invented a new and useful Game, of which the following is a specification.
This invention has reference to game boards or the like, and it is the primary object of the invention to provide a game including a spinning element adapted to contact with upright game pieces, to knock the same over uncovering certain numerals indicating points. n
A further object of the invention is to provide a pluralit of partitions adapted to be engaged by t e spinning element, the spinning element being constructed to cause the same to rebound when the same contacts with a partition, to knock over a game piece standing in the path of travel of the spinning element.
A still further object of the invention is to provide restricted openings within the partitions, whereby the spinning element may pass behind a partition to contact with the game pieces located at the rear thereof.
With the foregoing and other objects in View which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, may be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
Referring to the drawing Figure 1 illustrates a plan view of a game board and the pieces positioned thereon.
Figure 2 illustrates a sectional view taken on line 2-2 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 illustrates a detail view of a partition, disclosing the openings formed therein.
Referring to the drawing in detail, the game board is indicated by the reference character 5, which gameboard includes side walls 6 and 7, and end walls 7 and 8, the end wall 8 however being provided with a suitable opening 9 for purposes to be hereinafter more fully described.
A partition 10 extends transversely' of the game board and has its extremities connected to the side walls 6 and 7, the partition being however disposed in spaced relation with the end wall 7, to rovide a compartment therebetween, there eing suitable openings lndicated at 11, and formed in the partition 10, to permit a spinning game piece to enter the compartment to contact with the pins indicated at 12, which are positioned therein, and which pins normally cover numerals indicating points of the game.
Ad'acent the forward portion of the game boar 5, and arranged at opposite sides thereof are the longitudinal partition members 13 and 14 respectively, each of which has its forward extremity connected to the end wall 8 in any suitable manner, there being provided a partitioning member 15 j which connects the rear end of the respective partitioning members 13 and 14, to its side wall, forming compartments at the forward portion of the game board.
These partitioning members 13, 14 and 15, are provided with openings indicated at 16, which openings are also of formations to permit the spinning game piece to enter the compartment to contact with the upright game pieces 17 which are positioned therein, and which also normally cover numerals indicating points of the game.
The spinning element is top-like in formation, and includes a spinning stem 18 and a bearing member 19, the bearing member being designed to be positioned in the curved portions 20 and 21 of the transversely extending bars 22, which are disposed adjacent to the opening 9 to support the spinning element in close proximit to the opening, to permit the operation o the same.
The body portion of the spinning element is disk-like in formation, and is disposed adjacent to the upper extremity of bearing 19, the body portion being indicated by the reference character 23, and as shown, is provided with a plurality of notches 24, formed in the peripher thereof, which notches will contact wit the corners of the walls of the openings 16 and 11` to cause the spinning element to change its path of travel and to rebound with increased orce.
It might be further stated however that game pieces identical with those indicated by thereference characters 12 and 17 are positioned between the partitions 10, 13, 14 and 15, as indicated by Figure 1 of the drawing, which game pieces may also be engaged bythe spinning element to knock the same over.
In the use of the game board, a cord is wound tightly around the spinning stem 18 of the spinning element, the bearing member 19 thereof is now held into position within the curved portion 20 which holds the spinning stem 18 within the curved portion 2l. The cord, which is indicated 1n the present showing by the reference character 25 is now drawn through the opening 9 to cause the spinning element to spin, with the result that the same will move over the game board and through certain openings of the partitions, knockin over the game pieces supported therein.
en the spinning element has ceased spinning the numerals uncovered by the game pieces which have been knocked over, are added, and the operation repeats until the number uncovered in this manner have aggregated a predetermined amount.
Havin thus described the invention, what is claime as new is:
game apparatus including a game board, partitioning members supported by the game board, each of said partitioning members having openings formed therein andpresenting abrupt corners, game pieces supported on the game board at the rear of the partitioning members and directly opposite the openings, a spinning element including a central body portion havin notches formed in the periphery thereo said spinning element adapted to pass through the openings of the partitioning members and engage the game pieces, and the walls of the notches adapted to engage the corners of the openings of the partitloning members to cause the spinning element to move in an irregular path. p
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto affixed my signa.- ture in the presence of a witness.
