Description

W. W. LINCOLN.
COMBINATION WAGON AND GOCART. APPLICATION FILED MAY26, I919.
1 ,10 6,897, Patented Feb. 14, 1922.
[Iii/IIII/II/II/II/l/Ilf UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WARD W. LINCOLN, OF ROCK FALLS, ILLINOIS.
COMBINATION WAGON AND GOCART.
To'all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WARD IV. LINCO N, a citizen of the United States, residing at .tock Falls, in the county of lVhiteside and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combination Wagons and Goca-rts, of which the following is a specification.
My invention has reference to a combination wagon and go-cart, and embodies a novel feature whereby the wagon can be quickly converted into a go-cart, and the reverse. It is specially adapted for childrens carts, and is simple and easily operated.
I11 the drawings: Fig.1 is a longitudinal section of a wagon embodying my invention, with a portion of the tongue broken away.
,Fig. 2 is a similar View, somewhat reduced in size, when in use as a go-cart.
1 represents the body of the wagon, mounted on carrying-wheels 2, and provided with a tongue 3, between which and the forward end of the wagon is a cross-piece 4. The forward end of the wagon is normally closed by means of an end-gate 5, swingingly supported by plates 6 at the ends thereof, pivoted to the inner faces of the body 1, as at a. The side-pieces of the body 1 project a little distance beyond the bottom thereof, and the gate 5 is extended downwardly into the opening thus formed, and adjacent to the front face of the cross-piece l.
The manner of mounting the end-gate 5 permits it to be swung upwardly and rearwardly until it is supported on the wagon bottom, intermediate the ends thereof, as shown in Fig. 2. This operation opens the forward end of the wagon, permitting the front part thereof to be used as a seat, the member 5 forming a back therefor. In this position the part which projected downwardly in the former use of said member, now extends upwardly above the wagonbody, giving a desired height to the back. By reason of the peculiar shape of the pivotplates 6, and the attachment thereof at a point above the center line of the wagon, the end-gate 5 is held in a Vertical posltion at the front end of the wagon, and in an inclined position when in use as a back, as will appear from the drawings.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented F b 14 1922 Application filed May 26,
1919. Serial No. 299,680.
Thetongue 3 is provided on its lowei' side with a loop 7, by means of which the wagon may be held in a level position, against the tendency of the same to tip forwardly. The front bar of said loop has fixed thereto foot-rest 8, which can be used in connection with the seat in the front part of the wagon.
It will be obvious that the arrangement above set forth for the front end of the wagon, can be duplicated at the rear end thereof, so as to make the same accommodate two passengers, sitting back to back.
hat I claim and desire to secure, is:
1. device of the class described, comprising a suitably mounted wagon-body, open at one of its ends; and an end-gate adapted to close the open end of said body, and extending downwardly beyond the bottom thereof, and capable of being swung from said position to a point intermediate said body, to form a back for a seat established thereby in conjunction with the opened end of said wagon.
2. A- device of the class described, comprising a suitably mounted wagon-body, open at its front end; a swingingly supported member adapted to interchangeably form a closure for the open end of said body or a support intermediate the ends thereof, forming a seat with the open end of said wagon; a tongue attached to said wagon; and a foot-rest supported by said tongue, for use when said wagon-body is employed as a seat.
3. A device of the class described, comprising a suitably mounted wag0n-body,
open at one vof its ends; a pair of plates pivotally connected with said body; a member secured to the movable ends of said plates, so as to form a closure for the open end of said body or a support intermediate the ends thereof, the arrangement of said plates being such that said memberwill be held in a vertical position at the end of said body, and in an inclined position when forming a support "therein.
In testimony whereof I a-flix my signature.
WARD W. LINCOLN.
