Description
P. KUHN. ANGLE PLATE AND HANDLE FOR DENTISTS' BORING MACHINES. APPLICATION FILED SEPT. 1 $920- 1,406,263, Patented Feb. 14, 1922.
m/vsmr o/e faaljfuhn,
BYdfM ATTORNEY- UNITED stares PAUL K'U'HN, OF LEIPZIG-StlTTEBITZ, GERMANY.
ANGLE PLATE AND HANDLE non nEN'rIs'rs roams MAcnnvns;
Application filed September To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, PAUL KiiHN, a citizen of the German Republic, residing at Leipzig-Sttitteritz, Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Angle Plates and Handles for Dentists Boring Machines, of which the following is a speci' fication.
For cleaning the inner parts of dentists boring machines of known construction a' threaded ring which keeps the several parts together has first to be screwed out of the casing. The wear of this ring is evidently great as the angle plate has to be cleaned frequently. As the drill turns to the right, the threaded ring must have left handed threads whereby errors are frequently caused when the ring is to be screwed off as the dentist who uses the instrument is not a skilled mechanician.
When the threads of the locking rings have been worn out through use the whole head becomes useless.
' To overcome the disadvantages mentioned the construction of the angle plate and handle for dentists boring machines is improved according to this invention, in such a manner that the inner parts can be taken out after the handle has been screwed out of the angle plate and of the casing so that these inner parts can be rapidly cleaned after the instrument has been used.
With this object in view the casing is closed at the front part by a removable angle plate, one arm of which is securely fixed to the casing by means of the handle, the other arm of said angle plate carrying a sleeve designed to serve as hearing for the pinion which rotates the drill. lVhen the inner surface of the angle plate has to be cleaned, the handle is screwed out of the casing, whereupon the angle plate can be removed and the inner parts of the instrument can be taken out.
In the accompanying drawing the improved angle plate and handle for dentists Specification of Letters Patent. Patented Feb 14 1922 1, 1920. Serial No. 407,556.
boring machines are shown by way of ex- I ample.
Fig. 1 in side elevation, and in Fig. 2 in longitudinal section.
Fig. 3 1s a similar view as Fig. 2, the handle and angle plate being removed. I
One arm of the angle plate I), the shape of which corresponds with the form of the casing a, is maintained in the working position through the handle 0 which engages with an opening d of the said arm'of the angle plate I), this arm being thus fixed to the casing. The other arm of the angle plate 6 has a sleeve 6 which serves as journal bearing for the driving wheel 9 of the drill 7".
If the inner parts of the casing a have to be cleaned the handle a is screwed out of the casing a and the angle plate removed (Fig. 3) whereupon the inner parts can be taken out easily to be cleaned or repaired.
The slide plate h, of the casing a, has at its front end an indentation i which engages with notches in the shaft of the drill f. In order to limit the movement of the slide plate It in longitudinal direction, said slide plate which is parallel with the handle 0, has a slot 70 through which an abutment screw Z is screwed. The slide plate It is bent oil at an angle at its rear end, this part at serving as handle for the slide. When the drill f has to be taken out of the casing a, the slide plate It is pulled back so that the shaft of the drill f is released and the drill can be taken out.
1. An improved angle plate and handle for dentists boring machines comprising in combination with the casing, the drill and a pinion for rotating the drill, an angle plate removably mounted upon the casing and having an opening in its lower arm, a sleeve at the upper end of said plate serving as journal bearing for said pinion, and a handle inserted through the opening in the lower arm of said angle plate and screwed guided in the side walls as a journal hearing for the pinion of the drill shaft, and an extension at an angle to the arm having an opening adapted to receive the handle of the dentists boring machine.
In testimony whereof I allix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
PAUL KUHN.
