T o all whom it may concert 2 Be it known that I, SrENonR C. Roenns a citizen of the United States, residing at Ocean Park, in the county ofLos Angeles and State of California, have invented a new and useful Shipping-Tag Holder, of which the following is a specification. W

This invention relates to receptacles used for holding shipping tagsandadvice. cards in exposed position upon shipping containers, and. relates particularly to holders 0f this nature from whichthe inserted cards provide in such a holder a latch means which will be of utility toifastenythe free, end thereof to the body of the container when the container is in local. transportation.

It is also a further object of my invention to provide a locking means for such a holder which may be putinto use'whenthe con,- tainer is to be transported under conditions Where it will be handled? by unauthorized persons. 3 '1 It is a still further object of my invention to provide a latch for such a holder which will permit of extremely low manufacturing costof the article. 7

Upon the front of the body 12 of the containeris mounted a plate'd having project ing lugs 50 which areprovided" with holes 51. Therefore, I provide a latch such as just described which may be easily and quickly disengaged by drawing the Washers 40 and 41 inwardly with the thumb and forefinger. 7

With the use of my invention I accomplish a considerable saving in time over the methods now in use of attaching ship"- ping tags and'precautionary notices by the use of paste, tacks, and other such means.

I claim as my invention:

1. The combination with a shipping container comprising a body member and a cover member of: a shipping-tag holder hinged to one of said members and extensible over the other of said members; coacting fastening means upon the free end of said tag holder and upon said member over which said tag holder is extensible; and co-acting locking means associated with the free end of said tag holder and with said member over which said tag holder is extensible. The combination with a shipping container comprising a body member and a cover member of: a shipping tag holder hinged to one of said members and extensible over the other of said members, said holder having means formed thereupon to hold a shipping-tag; co -.acting-'fastening means upon the free end of said tag holder and: upon said member over which said tag holder is extensible; and co-acting locking means associated with the free end of said tag holder and with said member over which said tag holder is extensible.

The combination with a shipping container comprising a body member and a cover member. of: a shipping-tag holder hinged to one of said members and exten- SlblG over the other of sa1d members, sald holder having means formed upon the un- 'derside thereof to hold a shipping tag and having i apertures formed therein through which said tag may be viewed.

'4. The combination with a shipping container comprising a body member and a cover member of: a shipping-tag holder hinged to oneof said members and extensible over the other of said members, said holder having means formed upon the underside thereof to hold a shipping-tagand having apertures formed therein through which saidtag may be viewed; co-acting fastening means upon the free end of said ,tag holder and upon said member over which said tag holder is extensible; and coacting locking means associated with the free end of said tag holder and with said member over which said tag holder is extensible. i

5. The combination with a shipping container comprising a body member and a cover member of: a shipping-tag holder 6. In a shipping tag" holder for shippingcontainers, the combination of: a plate of suitable material adapted tobe 'swingably attached to one of the members forming a container; means upon said plate for holding .a shipping tag; fastening means upon said plate to co-act with the fastening means upon another of said members forming said container; and co-acting locking means associated with said plate and co actable with locking means associated with said secondly named container member. p

7 In a shipping tag holderfor shipping containers, the combination of: a plate of suitable material adapted. to be swingably attached to one of the members forming a container; means upon the underside of said plate for holdinga shipping tag, and said plate having apertures formed therein through which said shipping-tag is viewable; and fastening means upon said plate to co-act with fastening means upon another of said members forming said container.

The combination'with a shippingcontainer comprising a body member and a cover member of; a shipping-tag holder hinged to said cover member, said holder having means upon theunderside' thereof for holding a shipping tag and having holes formed therein through which said tag is viewable; latch lugs extending, from said body memberadapted to pass through holes provided therefor in the free end of said holder; a tube formed upon the lower edge of said holder; eyelets formed upon said 1 holder in alignmentwith said tube; shouldered pins in said tube adapted to engage said latch lugs, the reducedends of said pins passing through said eyelets; washers mounted upon the reduced ends of said pins, I

said washers being operable against said eyelets by said shoulders on said pins; and a spring acting between said tain same in extended position. 7

9. The combinationiwith a shipping container comprising a body member and a cover member of: a shipping-tag holder hinged to said cover member, said holder having means upon the underside thereof for holding a shipping tag and having holesformed therein] through which said tag is viewable; latch lugs extending from said body member adapted topass through holes provided therefor in the free end of said holder; a locking lug extending from said body member adapted to pass through a hole pins tomaini provided therefor in the free end of said holder; a tube formed upon the lower edge of said holder; eyelets formed upon said holder in alignmentwith said tube; shouldered pins in said tube adapted to engage said latch lugs, the reduced ends of said pins passing through said eyelets; washers mounted upon the reduced ends of said pins; said Washers being'operable against said eyelets by said shoulders on said pins; and a spring acting between said pins to maintain same in extended position. 7

10. A container comprising: a body memher; a cover for said body member; a shipping tag holder attached to one of said members; means for fastening said shipping tag holder to the other of said members; and

7 means for holding a shipping tag in said holder in such a manner that said tag cannot be readily removed when said holder is so fastened.

11. A container comprising: a body member; a cover for said body member; a shipping tag holder attached to one of said members; means for fastening said shipping tag holder to the other of said members; and means so placed on the back of said holder that a shipping tag may be readily inserted in said holder but only when said holder is in its unfastened position. v

A container comprising: a body memher; a cover for said body member; a ship- 1 ping tag holder attached to one of said members; means for fastening said shipping tag holder to the otherof said members; and means for holding a shipping tag in said holder in such a manner that said tag cannot be readily removed when said holder is so fastened, said holder having openings formed therein through which therein through which said shipping tag a may be read. 7 In testimony whereof, I have hereunto set my hand at Los Angeles, California, this 12th day of August, 1921.
