WRENCH.
Application filed March 10, 1921. Serial No. 451,280.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, VVILLIAM E. HART, a citizen of the United States, residing at Bowden, in the county of Greek and State of Oklahoma, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Wrenches, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to wrenches provided with fixed jaws for engaging with the objects to be operated; and it consists of a bar provided at one end with a jaw of novel formation, which is specially adapted for engaging with the stuffing-boxes of oilwell pumps, as hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a side view of a wrench constructed according to this in vention. Fig. 2 is an end view of the wrench.
The wrench comprises a bar 4 of suitable length. One end portion of this bar is flattened, and is provided with a curved part 5. Beyond the curved part 5, a rectangular jaw 6 is formed. The tip 7 of the bar eX- ten-ds substantially parallel to its main portion, and is of substantially the same length as the width of the jaw. This tip 7 has a beveled end 8. The curved part 5 projects outwardly of the jaw, and its middle part is concentric with a point substantially in line with the middle of the jaw, and about twice the width of the jaw distant from the bottom of the aw. This point or center 9 is inclicated by the dotted lines.
The other end of the bar 4: is preferably provided with an ordinary rectangular jaw 10.
The jaw 6 with its beveled tip and the curved part 5 are specially adapted for engaging with the stuffing-boxes on oil-well pumps as ordinarily constructed, and the use of a wrench constructed in this manner greatly facilitates the work of handling] these pumps.
What I claim is:
A wrench, comprising a bar having at one end portion an outwardly curved part and a rectangular jaw beyond the curved part, the tip of the bar which forms one side of the jaw having a beveled end and being of substantially the same length as the width of the jaw, and the center of the said curved part being substantially in line with the center of the jaw and at a distance of about twice the width of the jaw from the bottom thereof.
