Description

P. H. W. REDFORD.
CARD HOLDER.
APPLICATION FILED'MAY 25. 1920..
Patented Aug. 9, 1921.
. ZEI-IILIP H. VJ. BEDFORD, 0F IPROVIDIENCE, RHODE ISLAND.
(JEEP-HOLDER.
Application filed. May 25,
To all whom it may concern Be it known that T, PHILIP H. W. B nonorm, a citizen of the United States, residing at Providence, in the county of Providence and State of Rhode Island, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Card-Holders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a new and useful improvement in card holders, and has for its object to provide'such a holder which may be adjusted to receive cards of different sizes; means also being provided on the holder whereby it may be readily attached to the edge of a counter, shelf, table or other similar object.
The nature and advantages of the invention will be better understood when the following detail description is taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the invention residing in the combination and arrangement of parts as claimed.
In the drawings forming part of this specification, like numerals of reference indicate similar parts in the several views and wherein Figure 1 is a perspective View showing the back of the holder with a card in position between the upper and lower cross bars thereof.
Fig. 2 is a sectional side elevation of my improved holder.
Fig. 3 is a section on line 33 of Fig. 2, showing the shelf-gripping member as adj ustably mounted on a standard.
With reference to the drawings, 10 designates the standard member which is preferably formed of a short tube, the lower end of which is cut partly away at 11 and a portion of the tubing is bent around as at 12, to engage the lower cross bar 13.
This lower cross-bar is preferably formed of tubing slotted as at 14: along its upper edge for the reception of the lower edge of the display card.
The upper cross-bar 15 is, like the lower cross-bar, formed of a tubing slotted at 16 on its under side along its length. This cross-bar is provided with a spindle 17 which is attached thereto at 18, the shank portion 19 of this spindle being adapted to slide down into the tubular member 10 and Specification of Letters Patent.

is secured in adjusted position therein by means of the set screw 20, whereby the distance between the cross-bars 13 and 15 may be adjusted to receive cards 21 of difierent widths.
In order to provide simple and effective means whereby this holder may be readily attached or connected to the edge of a shelf, table, or the like, T have provided a spring clamp or clip 22 which is provided with two oppositely-disposed resilient lips having a flaring mouth adapted to yieldably engage the shelf or the like and this clamp or clip is connected to the holder by means of an arm 33 which is attached to a spring collar 2%, the latter havinga felt lining 25 to grip the tubular member frictionally, whereby the holder may be readily adjusted in the clip to place the same in the desired position relative to the shelf on which the holder is supported.
The device is extremely simple and practical in construction and by its use cards of any desired size may be readily held by its upper and lower edges by the cross-bars 13 and 15 and cause the card to present a finished appearance and the holder may then be caused to engage the edge of a shelf or object to which it is desired to connect the holder.
The foregoing description is directed solely toward the construction illustrated, but I desire it to be understood that I reserve the privilege of resorting to all the mechanical changes to which the device is susceptible, the invention being defined and limited only by the terms of the appended claims.
I claim:
1. A. shelf card-holder comprising card engaging members adjustably connected together and providing the card-holder, a resilient split ring embracnig an element of the holder and in slidable frictional contact therewith, and a resilient clamp secured to the ring and adapted to have the edge of a shelf engage therebetween, for detachably securing the holder to the edge of the shelf.
2. A shelf card-holder comprising a pair of channeled cross bars adapted to receive in their channel portions opposite edges of a card, a tubular member extending laterally from one of the bars and a shank extending from the other, said tube and shank being in telescopic engagement and positionedc to lie at the rear of the card, means 5 foracljusting the telescoping position of said tube and shank, whereby said cross bars may be adjusted relative to each other, a
ring surrounding said tubular member and slidably adjustable thereon, and a resilient In testimony whereof I aifix my signature.
