Description

T. 0. BUSSLER.
SCRUBBING BRUSH HOLDER.
APPLICATION FILED APR. 6.1921.-
Patented July 26, 1921;
object in view but I UNITED STATES onto. I
SCRUBBING-BRUSH HOLDER.
' Application filed April 6,
To all whom it may "concern c it known that I, TI-IoMAs O. BUSSLER, of Wheelersburg, in the county of Scioto and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Scrubbing- Brush Holders; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as willenable others skilled iii the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
In Letters Patent No. 1,320,311 issued October 28, 1919, on my application, I showed a detachable brush holder having as its primary feature the readiness with which the holding device may be attached to and removed from a brush.
In the present instance I have the same provide the added fea ture of rendering the holder adjustable to brushes of varying sizes.
Figure 1 is a side elevation top view. 7
The brush 1 is of the ordinary commercial type, having a flanged head 2. The inven tion relates to the means by which the brush is held on an elongated handle 3 so that the user may apply the brush to points beyond the reach of the hand.
have shown the handle provided with a pair of forwardly diverging arms 4 and spaced apart at their extremities about two inches. These arms may be attached to the sides of the handle, as by screws 5. They preferably consist of flat strips of metal twisted and bent near their free ends to form downward extending hooks 6 to receive the flanged head of the brushand present flat surfaces against the flanges. The arms are maintained in the correct relationship by being riveted to an intermediate block 7.
The arms 4, intermediate the hooks 6 and the handle, constitute a rigid shank portion. In this portion I form the arms with alining holes 8. On a pin 9 which may be passed through any two opposite holes is fulcrumed a lever 10 whose function is to co-act with the hooks 6 to hold the brush. This lever is shown consisting of a flat bar twisted and ben near each en t e le e en 2 t and Fig. 2 a

gage the brush head and the upper end 13 to constitute a finger hold.
To maintain the lower end 12 of the lever normally in brush-engaging position, that is, toward the hooks 6, I provide a coil spring 14 secured at one end'to the lever above the fulcrum point and anchored at its other end to. the shank, preferably to a between the arms. viously the article may be cheaply In use the operator simply grasps the finger hold13 and turns the lever Armr orsics.

on its fulcrum against the tension of spring I 14, in order to insert or remove the brush. Many sizes and widths of brushes are now being used and the usual types of detachable holders are not adapted to them all. By my invention I provide a wide range of adjustment by means of the holes 8 in any alining pair of which the pin 9 on which the lever 10 is iulcrumed may be mounted.
I claim as my invention:
1. In a brush'holder, a handle, a pair of arms projecting from said handle and terminating in downward extending hooks, a vertically disposed lever fulcrumed between said arms and having a downward projecting *hooked extremity, and a sprin anchored at one end to a fixed portion of the device and secured at the other end to said lever above its fulcrum p 2. In a brush holder, a handle, a pair of arms projecting from said handle and terminating in downward extending hooks, said arms having a series ofalining holes, a pin passed through pair of said holes, a verticallydisposed lever fulcrumed on said pin and. having a downward projecting hooked extremity, and a spring anchored at one end to a fixed portion of the device and secured at the other end to said lever above its fulcrum point.
3. In a brush holder, a handle, a pair of spaced apart arms projecting from said handle and constitutin a rigid shank, said arms comprising flat metallic plates twisted and bent near their free ends to form downward extending hooks, a block between said arms to which the latter are their spaced relationship, said arms having any corresponding.
secured to maintain a series of Mining heles, a, pin passed chore d at one end to said'shank and secured through any alining. palr of holes, a verti- 'at'the other end to sand lever above itsfu Cally disposed lever ,fulcrumed on said pin crum' point. 10
