APPLICATION FILED Nov. 2, 1920.
WIT/VESSES A TTR/VEYS Patented June 14, 1921.A
UNITED STATES ISIDORE-STARR, 0F NEW YORK,
Hernan-FRAME.
Speci-cationof Letters Patent. Patented June 14,1921,
I Application led November 27, 1920. Serial No. 426,699.
To allwltomz'tmay concern.' f
Be it known that I, Ismonn STARR, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of the Bronx, in the county of Bronx and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Picture-Frame, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact descripion.
This inventionrelates to improvements in picture frames an object of the invention being to provide a frame which includes a pair of transparent faces adapted to expose both sides of a sheet located between them. "A ,further object is to rovide a frame having a hinged or deta able member at one side which may be removed to permit the entrance or withdrawal of a picture.
e A further object is to provide al frame including two identical faces, one which will be neat and attractive in appearance, 'simple in constructiomstrong and durable in i use, and comparatively inexpensive to manufacture.
A still further object is to provide improved means for removably locking the frame against opening when a picture is located therein, andV to provide improved suspension means which will permit the frame to be readily turned to expose either `side thereof.
With these and other objects in view theinvention consists in certain novel features of construction, and combinations and ar-V rangements of parts, as will be more fully hereinafter described and pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings#- Figure 1 is a view in front elevation of my improved icture frame. l
Fig. 2 is a view in rear elevation thereof.
Fig. 3 is a view in transverse lsection through the frame.
Fig. 4: is an enlarged broken face view 'of the upper end of the frame, parts of the locking device being broken away for clearness.
Fig. 5 is an ed e view of Fig. 4.
' Referring in etail to the drawings, 1 represents a rectangplar v'frame preferably formed of metal. he frame includes inwardly extending flanges 2 forming channels. Three sides of the frame are permanently connected in any approved manner, but the fourth side 3, preferably the top side of the frame, is hingedly connected at one end to thel adjacent frame member as shown at 4;. This hinged frame member may be swung open as indicated in dotted Alines in Fig. 4 to permit the insertion of a pair of transparent plates or sheets 5 within the frame. narily of glass and are held in 'place by the iianges 2. The article to be exhibited, 6, is located between the sheets 5. -I have illustrated a discharge certificate from the United States Marine Corps in position in the frame. i
The free end of the hinged member 3 is provided with any suitable means `for removably locking with the adjacent frame member. I have illustrated an apertured spring tongue 7 on the member 3 engaging with a stud 8 on the adjacent frame meinber to lock the parts together.
Alined eyes 9 extend laterally from the sides of the. frame and receive the ends of a flexible suspension device 10. The flexible device 10 has its intermediate portion located over a nail or other support 11` The sheets 5 are ordiing the flexible device around the nail as shown at 10. On the other handif it is desirable to permanently expose the service record the device may be removed from its support, passed through the flexible device, and hung up with the service record exposed, the position of the eyes 9 permitting this operation. e
The frame is not necessarily limited to its use as a dis lay device for discharge certiiicates'. It orms an attractive frame for any icture and is especially convenient for displ) have their history printed on their back. lVarious sli ht changes might be made in the general orm and arrangement of the parts described without departing from the invention, and hence I do not limit myself to the precise details set forth but consider myself at liberty to make such changes and alterations as fairly fall Withinthe spirit and scope of the appended claim.
I claim: vice having'its ends secured lte the eyes, A rectangular frame, a pair of trans whereby when said, flexible device is susparent plates mountedin the frame and pended from a support, said frame may be 10 adapted t0 support between them an opaque rotatedv upon said flexible device to expose 5 sheet having printed matter on both of its either face Without removing the ilexible defaces, alined eyes rejecting laterally from vice from its support. the sides of the rame and a exible de- Y ISDORE STARR.
