COMBINATION-GLOBE.
Specification of Letters Patent.

Patented May 3, 1921.
Applicationfiled. June 9, 1919. Serial No. 302,674. I
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOSEPH FALCONE, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Combination-Globes, of
which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to lighting fixtures and more particularly, to globe or shade holders and has for its primary object the provision of a device of this character which is constructed to permit of its use in com bination with diflerent forms of fixtures or fittings whereby to enable the same to be operatively mounted in globe supporting position with respect to such fitting or fixture.
A still further object of the invention resides in the provision of a device of this character which will have incorporated therein, means for permitting of a connection therewith of stock forms of electric lamp sockets.
In the drawings Figure 1 is a vertical section through the device showing one application thereof.
Fig. 2 is a section through the same taken on line 22 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a view similar to Fig. 1 illustrating a difierent application of the inven tion, parts being shown in full lines.
Fig. 4 is a detail section through a portion of the device showing a slightly modified form thereof.
In carrying the invention into practice,
1 use is made of a member 5 having a depending globe receiving and retaining flange or portion 6, the latter carrying a suitable number of screws or the like .7, for establishing fixed connection between the mentioned portion 6, and the supported globe. The said member is provided with a crown 8, having an integral annular flange 9, which is grooved upon its exterior surface as at 10, said flange bein adapted to surround a standard form of socket as shown at A, in Fig. 1. v
To the under side of the crown is secured a plate 11 having a vertical flange 12 to which a split spring 13 is secured as at 1 1. The ends 15-15 of the spring are disposed in line with an adjusting opening 16 formed in the flange 9 and connecting said ends 7 1515 is a. clamping screw 17 which may be operated by a suitable tool or instrument when the latter is projected through said opening 16. The annular flange 9 terminates in an upper inwardly extending annular portion 18 in which is formed a socket receiving opening 19 whereby the lower end of the socket A, can be inserted through said opening and positioned so as to be embraced by the split spring 13, the embracing of the spring about the socket being at a point above the annular bead B, of the socket so as to augment that security of connection between the respective parts that is necessary to sustain the weight of a supported g obe.
The plate 11 is connected with the flange 8 of the member 5, preferably by hollow rivets 20 whereby to permit of ventilation to the interior of the globe.
In the form shown in Fig. 3, the member 5 is employed in connection with a socket A, having an ornamental housing or cap (1, the base of which being provided with a set screw 21 which is adapted to engage in the groove 10 of the flange 9. In this form, I make no other connection between the member 5 and the lamp socket A. In other words it is not necessary to employ the spring 13 in this instance.
In the form shown in Fig. 4, the plate 11 is provided with a flange 22 threaded interiorly to receive a corresponding thread 23 on the lower end of a socket A It will be understood upon reference to any one of the several forms shown herein that the device is capable of being ad usted to various stock forms of lamp socket fittings or fixtures so that a globe of the requisite size can be adequately supported therefrom.
What is claimed as new is 1. A globe holding member having a central opening to receive an incandescent lamp socket, in combination with a plate carrying means for its connection to the socket, and hollow rivets connecting the member and the plate and open at their ends to ventilate the interior of the member.
2. A globe holding member having a for its connection to the socket, and hollow crown and a central opening to reeelve an rivets connecting the crown and the plate 10 incandescent lamp socket and also having and open at their ends to ventilate the inte 'an annular flange extending upwardly about rior of the member. said opening; the said flange being circum- In testimony whereof I have aflixed my ferentially grooved, in combination with a signature. plate arranged against the underside of the crown of the member and carrying means JOSEPH FALCONE.
