T 0 all whom it may omcemt Be it known that I, ALBERT W. CONNER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Falls City, in the county of-Richardson and State of Nebraska, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Key- Rings, of which the following is aspecification.

This invention relates to a key ring of that class in which the keys are held on a loop, the terminals of the loop being connected by a member which permits of the keys being removed from the loop.

A particular feature of the present in vention resides in arranging a member closing the opening of the loop in such manner that it has permanent association with one terminus of the loop. and releasable association with the other.

The invention has as another object the provision of a closure for the loop which connects the terminals of the loop in such manner that one end of the closure while permanently associated with its particular terminaloit the loop is movable to locked and pivoted positions, the other end being releasable from its terminal only when the first mentioned end of the closure is moved to the pivotal position. i

In detail:

The key ring, as shown in the accompanying drawing, comprises a U-shaped loop 1 having the terminals 2 and 3 spaced apart as shown. The terminal end 2 consists of an enlarged portion having a keyhole slot consisting of a round opening 4 and a narrow rectangular opening 5, the said keyhole slot being disposed with the round opening 4 toward the closed end of the loop.

The terminal 3 comprises a hook end 6 carries the lug 10 which is rounded on the Specification of Letters Patent.

In as sembling the key ring the bar 8 is placed so that the lug '10 enters the rectangular portion 5 of the keyhole slot and the cylindrical portion 12 of the other lug enters the base of the hook 6 as shown in Fig. 2, the bar 9 is then applied over the rivet ends 13 and 1& so that said rivet ends enter the holes 15 and 16 respectively and are riveted down as shown in Fig, 1.

WVith the closure thus assembled to the loop it is impossible'to disengage the cylindrical member 12 from the hook 6, but if the lug 10 is moved so that it enters the round opening 4: of the keyhole slot it then acts as a pivot for the closure and the arms of the loop will spring apart sufiiciently to allow the closure to be rotated so that the cylindrical portion 12 may be disengaged from the hook 6 and keys applied to the loop. After the closure has been moved to the open position as shown in Fig. 3 and the keys applied the closure is then rotated back with the cylindrical member 12 lying in the base of the hook 6 and the opposite end having the lug 10 in the rectangular portion of the keyhole slot so that the closure is keyed against pivotal movement until again released by moving the keyed end as previously described. 7

It is to be noted that the particular shape of the terminal '3 with its notched hook end permits a key with a small hole to be placed on the ring.
