To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, MosEs HERZOG, a citizen of the United States, residing at Washington, in the District of Columbia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Strap-Fasteners; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to an improved device for preventing the separation of two ends of a binding element connected by-a buckle and is more especially designed for use in connection with a satchel or trunk strap.

The object of the invention is to prevent the buckle from being opened and secure the end so that. it cannot be released except by the person having the key.

These ends are first secured tirgether by the usual buckle 20 and to prevent this buckle from being uniastened and the strap removed, this improved fastener is employed and which consists of an approximately U-shaped clip 10, preferably made of spring metal to permit the le s 11 and 12 to spring apart when released. One of these legs has a peil'orated lug or staple 13 projecting inwardly from its inner face and the other leg has a slot 14 arranged opposite said lug and adapted to fit thereover and a padlock 15 or other means for holding the two legs connected may be passed through said open lug 0r staple. In one use of this device, the strap is first passed round the object to be bound and the ends secured by the buckle 20 in the usual manner. The lug or staple 13 of the clip 10 is then passed upward through the openings 6 in the lower strap end 3 in close proximity to the buckle 20 and then through the adjacent opening 5 in the overlapping end 4 and the leg 12 extends over the outer face of the end 4 and is pressed down to force the slot 14 over the projecting staple 13. The hasp of the padlock 15 is then passed through said staple and locked, whereby the two ends are securely held together.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is 1. An approximately U-shaped spring metal clip having an aperture in one leg thereof and a staple extending laterally from the inner face of the other leg and adapted to project through and be withdrawn from the aperture in the first mentioned leg, and a lock adapted to be passed through the end of said staple outside said apertured leg to detachably connect said legs together.

2. A fastening device comprising U-shaped spring metal clip having an aperture through one leg thereof. an integral laterally extending lug projecting from the inner face of the other leg in position to pass through the opening in the first-mentioned leg, said lug having its free end apertured, and the legs of said clip beingnormally spread apart with the lug out of engagement with the apertured leg to facilitate the application of the device, and means for passing through the aperture in said lug after the passage of the lug through the opening in the apertured leg to detachably connect said legs.

3. The combination with a strap having perforated overlapping ends, of a U-shaped clip having an inwardly projecting apertured lug on one leg, the legs of said clip straddling the ends of said strap with the perforated lug extending through registering apertnres therein, the other leg of said clip having a slot arranged to fit over said lug and means for passing through said lug outside said slotted arm to secure the legs of said clip together and lock the overlapped ends of the strap against separation.
