WINDOW-MOP.
Application filed December 31, 1919.
To all whom it may concern,
Be it known that I, VICTORIA S. BRANDES, a citizen of the United States, residing Middletown, in the county of Orange and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in 'Window- Mops, of which the following is a specification.
This invention has relation to a wimlow mop, and has for an object to provide a de vice which is extremely simple inconstrud tion, and which is eminently adapted for use in cleansing the outer surface of window sashes without the necessity of placing oneself upon the outer side of a building or through the window for the purpose of accomplishing the act.
In addition to the foregoing this invention comprehends improvements in the details of construction and arrangement of parts, to be hereinafter described and particularly set forth in the appended claims.
In the accompanying drawings in which similar and corresponding parts are desig nated by the same characters of references throughout the several views in which they appear,
Figure 1 is a view in perspective of a window mop constructed in accordance with my invention.
Fig. 2 is a view thereof in plan, and
Fig. 3 is a plan view of a still further modified form.
With reference to the drawings, 10 indicates a rectangular body which is preferably constructed of Wood, and is provided with a slot 11 extending horizontally adjacent the upper ends thereof and formed with lateral downward extensions 12 of said slot as shown in Fig. 2. A. handle 18 is applied to the device having one end formed with a substantially semi-circular curve 14 as shown and the terminal of said curved i portion attached to the body 10 by nails or other means.
In use a cloth 15 1s provided, having one I end inserted through'the slot 11 and the extensions 12 thereof as shown in Fig. l and the opposite end of the cloth subsequently thrown over top edges and side edges of the body 10 as shown forming the two thicknesses which are applied to the surface of the pane when using the device. Thus, the mop may be inserted through the Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 1, 1921.
Serial No. 343,573.
the body portion with one end of the strand bent at right angles as at 18, bent at right angles again as at 19 to form a cloth engaging means, and subsequently at right angles again providing a portion 20 parallel to the member 18 the terminal of the portion 20 being formed with an eye 21 in which to receive the extremity of the portion 17 of the strand. In this way a rectangular wire frame is formed which is normally held in engagement with the board 10 by means of a coiled spring 22 surrounding the portion 17 with one end of the spring engaging the portion 20 and the other securely entered in the handle 13.
While I have illustrated and described my invention with some degree of particularity, I realize that in practice various alterations therein may be made. I therefore reserve the right and privilege of changing the form of the details of construction or otherwise altering the arrangement of the correlated parts without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent is:
1. A window cleaner comprising a slotted fabric holder provided with a handle, the slot extending across the holder at right angles to the handle and thence at each end in the direction of the handle.
2. A Window mop including a rectangular body portion having a slot extendin therethrough adjacent one longitudinal e ge and end slots communicating therewith, a handle secured to the rear face of the body memher, a rectangular frame, one member of the same extending loosely through an opening in the handle so that the other three members may bear against the rear face of the In testimony whereof I afiix my signature body member ad acent the slots formed 1n presence of two wltnesses. therem, a sprmg enclrehng the first named memberof the frame having one end of the VICTORIA BR'ANDES 5 spring anchored to the handle and the other Vitnesses end to the frame to normally retain said CHAS.1Lr. TAYLOR,
frame 1n engagement with. the body member. OLIVE M. CAMERON.
