To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, SIMON J. SUMMER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Providence, in the county of Providence and State of Rhode Island, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Advertising or Display Cases, of which the fol lowing is a specification.

My invention relates to advertising or display cigarette cases and its essential objects are to enable the mounting of a photograph or other display card in the body thereof in such a manner as to be visible upon the er:- terior of the case; and to effect this end by a simple, secure, and inexpensive means.

To the above ends my invention consists in such parts and in such combinations of darts as fall within the scope of the appended claims.

In the drawings 5 and 6 represent the two sections of the case, constituting. in this in stance the body and cover respectively. Both these members are transversely curved. and are provided respectively with peripheral inwardly directed flanged portions '7 and 8 of curved cross section. A pintle 9 and hinges 11 of usual. construction connect the wings at adjacent edges of their flanged portions. The member 5 is provided with the usual catch. loop 13 integral with the thumb piece 14 passing through a slot 16 and integral with the spring 17 fastened by a rivet 18 to the flanged portion 7. A display opening 20 is formed in the center of the member 6 having a contour similar to that of periphery of the latter. The body around the margin 21 of the opening is flat relatively to the flange -8. Upon intermediate portions of the latter flange upon two or more sides thereof are internal rounded studs or projections 23. A card 24 containing a photograph or other ornament fixed to or printed upon its outer face is placed within the member 6 with its peripheral margin resting against the cover margin 21 so that its face is exposed to the exterior of the case. The card is held in position by means of a resilient transversely curved retaining plate comprising a body portion 26 and an inclined peripheral flange 27. Intermediate the body and flange is preferably a continuous shoulder 28. -In applying the plate its body 26 is pressed against the card forcing the latter into the plane of the body of the cover, with the shoulder 28 registering with the material at the edge of the opening 20, and with the flange 27 pressing against the margin of the card. The pressure upon the retaining plate is continued until the opposite edges of its flange 27 snap under the projections 23, and the latter then retain the parts against escape. "the projection 30 on the member 6 is adapted to enter the loop 13 to lock the case sections in the usual manner.

I claim l. A case having one face provided with a display opening with rounded studs at the margin of. said opening, and a retaining plate adapted to hold a display card over said opening, said plate being frictionally held in position by engagement with said studs.

A case having a surrounding flange having an opening with the portion of said flange adjacent to flat. rounded studs on said flat portion about said opening, a retaining plate having a flange and a shoulder registering with the material at the edge of said opening, and a display card over said opening, said flange of the plate pressing against the margin of the card and the said plate retained by said studs. 7
