TTEE STATES JOSEPH J. FREEMAN, OF ATTLEBOROUGH, MASSACHUSETTS, ASSIGNOR TO FREEMAN 8t 00., OF SAME PLACE.
lMPROVEMENT IN LINKS FOR ORNAMENTAL CHAINS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 1 36,594, dated March 11, 1873.
To all whmn it may concern:
Be it known that I, JosEPE J. FREEMAN,
of Attleborough, in the county of Bristol and State of Massachusetts, have invented an Im-' proved Chain-Link for Jewelry; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being bad to the accompanying drawing making a part of this specification.
The nature of my invention consists in an improved chain link, formed of wire, bent around a suitable form, and then having the ends turned inwardly, forming two loops and an eye, by means of which any desired number of such links may be readily grouped into a strong and durable ornamental chain for jewelry.
Figure 1 represents a piece of the chain, showing the method of grouping the links with each other. Fig. 2 is a side view of a single link. Fig. 3 is a sectional view taken in the line m m of Fig. 2.
The wire used to form the link A is first bent around a circular form, and then the ends are turned inwardly or toward each other so as to form the two loops at aand the eye a, after which the wire may be flattened so as to impart additional strength to the link and to improve its appearance. The loops a a are made elongated, in order that the loop of one link may be readily passedthrough the corresponding loop of another link in order to group them together so as form the chain shown in Fig. 1, the links in each section of the chain being arranged in pairs, so as to present the same general appearance on four opposite sides; but these improved links may be grouped together in other styles of chain, if desired.
I claim as my invention The chain -link A, formed of wire, bent around as shown,-and having its ends turned inwardly so as to form the two loops a a and the eye a, substantially as described.
JOSEPH J. FREEMAN.
