Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
' WARREN W. BRIGGS, OF PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND, ASSIGNOR TO S. & B. LEDERER, OF SAME PLACE.
DESIGN FOR AN ORNAMENTAL CHAIN.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 12,951, dated May 30, 1882. Application filed March 13, 1889. Term of patent 7 years.
To all whom it may concern:
Beit known that I, WARREN W. BRIGGs, a citizen of the United States, residing at Providence, in the county of Providence and State of Rhode Island, have invented and produced a new and original Design for Ornamental Chains, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification.
Figure l is a face View signed ornamental chain, and Fig. 2 is a side or edge view ofthe same.
The leading feature of my newly-invented design in ornamental chains consists in a raised wire or band having two sides extending from the center of the chain outward, so as to give to the chain a herring-bone appearance, as is shown in Fig. 1.
In the drawings, A A are the links. B B are the connecting-links, and C O are the herring-bone wires. These wires are raised above the face ofthe links A and branch outward to the edge of the chain. They may be made of round or fiat wire. or madeofdi'erent metal than the chain proper,
or of metal having the saine or a dii'erent color than the rest of' the chain. They form bifurcated ornaments on the links and impart to the chain a new, ornamental, and easily-dis- 3o tinguishable appearance, giving to the saine a herring-bone appearance. These bifurcated bands or wires may be used on one or both sides of the chain.
Having thus described my newly-invented 35 design, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The design for an ornamental chain herein shown and described, the same consisting of the herring-bone or bifurcated raised orna- 4o ments C, in connection with the links A and connecting-links B.
WARREN W. BRIGGS.
