Be it known that I. RICHARD E. Holmneon. a citizen of the l nited States, residing at Richmond. in the county of Contra Costa and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in separable Holders for Buttonhole- Bouquets, Badges, and Emblems. of which the following is a specification containing a full. clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part hereof.

My invention relates to an improved separable holder for button-hole bouquets. badges. emblems and the like. and it consists in the novel construction and combination of parts hereinafter described and claimed.

The object of my invention is to provide a holder which shall be capable of instantaneous attachment to the coat. vest, waist. or other article of apparel. by perforating the garment where a button-hole is not presentat the point it is desired to locate the holder upon (which is done by the pointed head of the holder itself) and which holder shall be cheap. simple and reliable. and capable of ready detachment from the garment by merely separating the members of said holder and withdrawing said pointed head from the perforation made by it in the garment. or from the button-hole in cases where the holder is applied to a button-hole.

The numeral 1 designates the main body of the holder. which may be circular as here shown. or it may be of any other desired shape. in the form of a button.' badge. or common emblem.

In the present illustration of my invention I have shown the main body or front member of the holder in the form of a Liberty Loan emblem, the front face of said member having upon it the words Fifth Liberty Loan, arranged in circular form near the marginal edge of said member, while a fiat curved bouquet-holding spring 2 has one of its ends soldered or otherwise fixed to the outer face of said member and extends across said face diametrically. while the opposite end of said spring is free to be lifted by the operators finger. in inserting the stem of the flowers in the space between the curved central portion 3 of said spring and the face of said member.

On the front face of the said bouquetholding spring 2 is printed or otherwise formed a representation of the well-known Liberty Loan flag.

It will, of course, be understood that the bouquet-holding spring 2 may be omitted in some cases. and the Liberty Loan flag may be printed or otherwise impressed directly upon the front face of the front member 1, or the front face of said member may be provided with any desired form of impression or representation when the device is to be used as an emblem or badge different from that of the Liberty Loan.

The front member 1 may be made of sheet metal, devoid of the said bouquet-holding spring 2. in the same manner, and of the same material as common sheet-metal buttons; or it can be made of any other suitablematerial. whether it be metallic or vegetable. or a combination of both.

Fixed in the main body of the said front member 1, or attached thereto in any common manner, and projecting from the back or under surface of said member, centrally thereof, is a metallic stud 4 having an integral sharpened head 5 that is of greater diameter than is said stud, so that a shoulder or off-set 6 is formed bythe base of said sharpened head.

The said front member 1, as above described, may also be termed the perforating member, as the pointed head 5 is forced "into the cloth of the wearers garment, and

perforates the same, when it is desired to apply the holder to a garment that has no button-hole at the desired location.

To securely hold, and lock, the front member 1 in position upon the garment. after the said pointed head 5 has perforated said gar- "ment, I provide any suitable back member,

such as that designated by the numeral 7. which may be quickly locked upon or separated from the said stud 4 of said front member. and which will engage the part of said garment that is in front of or on top of the said back member, and effectually prevent the accidental withdrawal of the said stud 4, and in fact prevent the withdrawal of said stud absolutely until said back member has been unlocked from the said stud.

In the present case, the said back member 7 is shown of much less diameter than that of the said front member 1, and composed of 'a top plate 8 having a central opening in the form of an upwardly tapering or conical passage 9 through which the said pointed head of said stud 4 passes in looking and separating the front and back members of the holder during use. A bottom plate 10 having two slots 11 in it is separated by a cross-bar 12, and said bottom plate has its marginal edges flanged or soldered, or otherwise secured, to the marginal edge of the said top plate 8; and a suitable locking-key composed of a head 14: and spring legs 15 is attached at one end to said head and extends through the said slots, so that (when said. front and back members are connected) they will be locked together by the upper free ends of the said legs engaging between the stud shoulder 6 and the surrounding conical walls of the said passage 9 of said top plate 8. See Fig. 4.

The locking of the front and back members is effected by merely pushing upwardly the said head 14 of the said locking-key, after the pointed head of the stud 4 has been inserted into the said tapering passage 9 of the top plate of said back member, until the said spring legs 15 of said key are placed in position between said stud shoulder 6 and the surrounding conical walls of the said passage 9, thereby blocking the withdrawal of the said studhead 5 until such time as the said spring legs 15 are withdrawn, which may be readily accomplished by grasping the said 14 of said key by the finger nails or by the aid of a knife-blade inserted be-.

The emblem member is locked against rotation upon the garment by means of the sharpened end 16 of the said spring 2 penetrating the garment, the said spring being bent at a right-angle, so that said sharpened end 16 projects a suitable distance for, such purpose.

' Among the uses to which my invention may be put is, to hold button-hole bouquets, badges, emblems, brooches and watch chains.

I do not limit myself to the locking means herein shown, as the form of the same may be varied without departing from the spirit of my invention or from the scope of my claim.

The operation of my invention will be clear without further description.

I claim:

A holder for buttonhole-bouquets, badges and emblems; comprising a front member of sufficient size to have displayed thereon thefront member, for fastening the latter to a garment of the wearer.
