To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FREDERIC EDWARD CARTER, a subjectiof Great Britain, and a resident of Newark, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey, have invented new and useful Improvements in Alloys, of
obtain; to obtain an alloy which shall closely simulate platinum-iridium in all the qualities which render it especially adapted to the uses for which it is employed; to obtain a practicable facility in working the alloy, and to obtain other advantages and results as may be brought out in the following description.
In carrying out my invention I form an alloy of gold, silver and palladium with an excess of platinum, and while other proportions may be useful in other arts, the proportions for a substitute for platinum-iridium should be substantially 5%15% of gold, 1}%5% of silver and 1}%5% of pallaany iridium, and, while of course the platinum is expensive, an alloy is obtained which because of the absence of the still more expensive iridium is more economical than platinum-iridium. In this way a less expensive substitute for platinum-iridium is secured and the supply of iridium conserved.
Having thus described the invention, what I claim is:
1. An alloy containing substantiall 5%-15% gold, }%5% silver, %%--5% pa ladium and the rest platinum.
2. An alloy containing 12.3% gold, 1.8% silver, 1.3% palladium and 84.6% latinum.
