I alcitizen of the United States, residing at Berne in the county ofAdams and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful improvements in Swings, of which the tollowing is a specification.

Thi invention relates to swings and more especially to swings of the suspended porch or ceiling type and the primary object of the invention is to provide means whereby the occupant of the swing maypropel the same without the exercise of great effort and without any appreciablebackward or forward movement of the body so that the occupant may swing'with greatest ease and comfort.

1n the use of a rope swing it is customary to alternately pull and push on the side ropes in order to propel the swing and the present invention has as a further ObJBCt to provide means whereby a similar effect may be produced in a suspended swing having relatively rigid side members.

A further object of the invention is to so construct the propelling means for the swing that the same may be most conveniently reached and operated by the occupant of the swing or by two or more occupants when desired.

In the drawings the suspension members of the swing are indicated in general by the numeral 1 and each comprises a bar 2 of wood or any other suitable material provided at its upper end with any suitable means, as for example a bracket 35 whereby the bar may be 'pivotally suspended for swinging movement from a porch roof or other supporting structure. From the foregoing description of the invention and byreference to the drawings it will be understood that normally the. propelling device assumesthe position shown in Figs. 1 and 2 of thedrawings, that is to say, with thehandle bar 13 extending transversely in front of the seat 22.
