F. PETERS. ATTACHMENT {0R CHILDRENS CARRIAGES.
APPLICATION FILED AUG-24, 1920.
Patented Aug. 23, 1921.
// INVENTOR [P575288 ATTORNEYS FREDERICK PETERS, YORKQNUY.
ATTACHMENT ron CHILDRENS cARRIAGEs.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 23, 1921.
Application filed August 24, 1920. Serial No. 405,598.
To all whom it may concern."
Be it known that I, FREDERICK PETERS, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, Long Island City, borough of Queens, in the county of Queens and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Attachment for Childrens Carriages, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The present invention relates to new and useful improvements in childrens carriages, and it pertains more particularly to an auxiliary seat for devices of this character.
It is the primary object of the present invention to provide an auxiliary seat for childrens carriages which is adapted to be attached to the carriage and move therewith.
It is a further object of the present invention to so construct a device of this character that the carriage to'which it is attached will not be subjected to undue strain due to the carrying of the extra passenger.
It is a further object of the presentinvention to so construct a -device of this character as to render it readily attachable to and detachable from a childs carriage of ordi nary construction.
With the above and other objects in view, reference 'is had to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a side elevation showing the attachment in place;
Fig. 2 is a detail top plan view partly in section of the-front portion. of childs carriage, with the attachment in place thereon;
Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view on the line 33 of Fig. 2, and
Fig. 4: is a sectional View taken onthe line 4-4 of Fig. 2.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, the reference character 10 designates a childs carriage, and 11 designates the front axle thereof. A device constructed in accordance with the present invention comprises a substantially U-shaped metal frame 12, the sides of which are connected at their front end by means of bars 13. Near their central portion these bars 13 are downwardly bent as indicated by the reference character 14, to provide angularly depending arms 15.
These angularly depending arms 15 provide the means for attachment of the frameto a supportlng wheel 16, by means of a bolt or the like 17 passing through perforations 1n the lower ends of the arms 15. Carried by the bolt 17 and projecting vertically therefrom, is an inverted U-shaped member 18 forming a supporting means for a foot rest 19, which foot rest 19 is secured to the inverted U-shaped member 18 by means of bolts 20.
Carried by the frame 12 and secured thereto in any desired manner, as by means of bolts, screws, or the like, is a platform 21. Mounted on the frame 12 are inverted U-shaped springs 22, and said springs are secured in position by means of bolts or the like 23. There is one of these springs 22 on each side of the platform 21, said springs forming the supporting means for the seat 24.
The device is adapted to be attached to the front axle 11 of a childs carriage, and
' to provide for its attachment to said axle,
a plurality of U-bolts 25 are employed, said U-bolts engaging around the front axle 11 of the carriage, and having the free end of the legs of the bolts passed upwardly through the platform 21 and the-frame 12 and clamped in position by means of nuts or the like 26.
From the foregoing it will be apparent that when the U-bolts are passed around the axle 11 and the nuts 26 positioned there on, the device is rigidly clamped about the front axle of the childs carriage, and that upon movement of the carriage the auxiliary seat will be moved in unison-therewith. The
By this construction, it will be seen that the use of a device constructed in accordance with the present invention permits of the accommodation of an. extra passenger when desired, the device being capable of detachment when it is not desired to use the same.
What is claimed is:
1. In combination with a childs carriage, an auxiliary seat comprising a platform, a single wheel for supporting the forward end of said platform, a seat carried by the platform, and means carried by the rear end for securing the platform to the front axle of the platform for detachably securing said of the carriage, means for supporting the rear end to the forward axle of the carriage forward end of said platform, and passenger- 10 a to which it is attached. carrying means resiliently mounted on said 2. A device of the character described platform.
comprising in combination. with a child s carriage, a platform, a plurality of U-bolts v FREDERICK PETERS.
