Be it known that l, A .iizoN M. BinLs'rnIN,
finely powdered material, having a removable closure or cover at one end, of tin or other metal in order to prevent danger of waste in shipping or in handling after the box has been opened. By the present invention it is possible to manufacture boxes of paper which will be adapted for such use at a cost very much less than that of making metal boxes.

Referring to the drawings the embodiment of the invention illustrated is a box, of
rectangular form in cross section, compris-. ing four slde walls, a permanently closed bottom and a cover. All of these parts may be formed from a single blank or sheet which isprovided with suitable scores or creased to enable it' to be bent into the form shown in Fig. 1. and have the sides and bottom permanently secured together.
As shown in Fig. 4., the blank is divided into the side or wall sections a, b, 0, d, each having at one end an extension, at, b, c, 03', adapted to be overlapped to form the bottom of the box, and the side a being further provided with a longitudinal marginal fiap a which is pasted or otherwise permanently secured to the side 03.

In order to form such a close joint between the cover and body of the box that the powcler-like material contained in the box can not escape, a pocket is provided to receive the marginal flap 6, of the cover when the latter is in closed position. In the embodiment of the invention illustrated in Figs. 1. to 4., this pocket is produced by forming the additional transverse creases or scores, f f, acrossthe sections a, b, '0, cl, adjacent the upper. ends thereofQ By first folding the blank in opposite directions on the lines of the scores or creases, f f, and then on the lines of the longitudinal creases or scores, itwill be. seen that there is provided a tubular body of rectangular form in cross section, having about one end an interior pocket. In the box illustrated in Figs. 1. to 3.,
a pocket is formed at the upper end of each side or end wall, the cover being a direct extension of the inner wall of one of such pockets. As only three of such pockets are required, a slightly different form of blank may be employed; and also the pockets may be formed from a separate strip suitably secured to the main blank. Such an embodiment of the invention is illustrated in Figs. 5. and 6.
Referring to the last said figures, it will be seen that the cover, 6, extends directly from the side section, d, and that a longitudinally folded strip, g, is secured to the inner faces of the sections, a, b, c, and forms the pockets to receive the marginal flaps on the cover. By this arrangement, there is effected a slight saving in the amount of ma-v terial required for the blank,
Other modifications and changes than" those hereinafter specifically referred to may be made without departing from the scope of the invention. It will be seen that the pockets formed to receive the depending flaps on the cover, as well as the pocket formed in rear of the connection between the cover and body of the box in theembodiment of the invention illustrated in Figs. 1 to 3 are continually completely separated from the interior of the box throughout their length. That .is the inner wall of said pockets extends continuously around the interior of the box and there is no danger of the pressure of the contents of the box exerting sufficient pressure on'the side, or end, walls thereof to open the ends of said pockets and permit the entrance thereto, and subsequent escape therefrom, of a powdered substance, for example.
Having thus described the invention what is claimed is 1. The herein described box comprising a body closed at the bottom and provided at its top with a plurality of interior pockets open only at the top formed of thin material folded on itself and oneof the folded leaves or sections connected at its edge to the body of the box at the top, and a cover having a plurality of marginal flaps corresponding to and adapted to be received in said pockets when the box is closed, whereby a complete closure is provided and the escape of powderlike contents of the box prevented.
2. The herein described box comprising a body closed at the bottom and provided at its top with a plurality of interior pockets the inner wall of which is a continuous strip, whereby the said pockets between the ends of said strip are always closed at the corners of the box from the interior of the box, and a cover having marginal flaps corresponding to and adapted to be received in said pockets when the box is closed, whereby a complete closure, preventing the escape of a powderlike substance from the box, is provided.
3. The herein described box comprising a body formed from a blank folded to provide sides, a bottom and a pocket extending along the inner face of each wall at the top edge thereof, the walls of said pockets extending continuously about the box, and a cover pro-- vided with a plurality of marginal flaps each adapted to be received in one of said pockets, substantially as and for the purpose described.
4. The herein described box formed from a single blank folded to provide sides, a bottom and a cover, the sides having additional folds forming continuous interior pockets about the top of the box, and the cover having a plurality of marginal flaps each adapted to be received in one of said pockets when the box is closed for the purpose described.
5. The herein described box comprising a body formed from a blank folded to provide ides, a bottom and a pockct extendingalong the inner face of each wall at the top edge thereof, the inner walls of said pockets extending continuously about the box, and a cover formed as an extension of the inner wall of one of the pockets and provided with marginal flaps adapted to be received in the other pockets when the box is closed, substantially as and for the purpose described.
6. The herein described box comprising a body made up of side walls meeting at an angle and a top composed of a single sheet of material, interior pockets at the tops of said side walls, the said pockets all being composed of the material of the side Walls folded downward and inward against the inner faces of the walls and then upwardly to a point adjacent the top edge whereby the pockets of the side walls will be composed of a continuous sheet of material, the said top inte rally joining one side wall at its upper edge eing provided with marginal flaps adapted to enter and fit within -said pockets.
