Description

A. E. MEYER.
COTTON PICKERS SACK.
APPLICATION FILED nzc. I. 1919.
1 47,704. Patented July 27, 1920.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ADOLPH E. MEYER, OF WEBSTER GROVES, MISSOURI, ASSIGNOR TO TEXTILE PRODUCTS MANUFACTURING COMPANY, OF ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI, A GOR- PORATION OF MISSOURI.
COTTON-PICKERS SACK.
' Specification of Letters Patent. 5 Patented July 27, 1920.
Application filed December 1, 1919. Serial No. 341,761.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ADoLPH E. MEYER, a citizen of the United States of America, a resident of Webster Groves, in the county of St. Louis, State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cotton-Pickers Sacks, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification.
My invention relates to a sack for use by cotton pickers in gathering cotton in the field, the invention having for its object to produce a cotton pickers sack of very simple and inexpensive nature with the mouth of the sack 'so formed as to permit easy access to the sack. The sack is preferably of similar structure at each of its sides,
thereby permitting a reversal of the sack at any time so that the wear incident to dragging the sack on the ground may not be imposed upon one side of the sack alone, but on both sides of it, to lengthen its serviceability. I
Figure I is a front elevation of my cotton pickers sack.
Fig. II is a vertical section.
Fig. III is a top plan with the shoulder strap in section on line IIIIII, Fig. I.
A designates the body of my cotton pickers sack, open at its upper end to permit accessthereinto. A shoulder strap B, suitably secured to the upper end of the sack at its edges, serves as a means for supporting the sack on the body of a cotton picker in dragging it upon the ground, as is customary in the use of cotton pickers sacks.
Each wall of the body A is divided from the upper edge of the wall to a crotch 1, thereby providing a pair of flaps 2 which extend from the side edges of the sack body to said crotch, the flaps gradually widening inwardly from the side edges toward the division leading to the crotch 1. The pair of flaps 2 at the upper end of each wall of the sack body are provided at their inner ends with clasp or fastening members 3 adapted to be engaged with each other when the flaps are elevated into line with the wall by which they are carried, thereby making said wall continuous to the upper end of the sack body, while the other pair of flaps hangs suspended, as seen in Fig. I.
In the use of my cotton pickers sack, the flaps 2 upon the wall of the body which is intended for the time being to serve as the back wall, are joined by the fastening means provided for their connection, while the flaps upon'the front wall hang suspended, and a mouth for the sack is thereby provided which includes a lowered front portion and a back portion projecting higher than the lowered front portion, and the cotton picker may therefore very readily introduee handfuls of cotton into the sack over the front wall of the sack, the elevated rear portion of the sack serving to prevent the pickers hand passing across the mouth of the sack instead of entering thereinto.
I claim:
A reversible cotton pickers sack having two walls each divided at its upper end intermediate of its longitudinal edges, providing flaps at opposite sides of the point at which the wall is divided, said flaps being provided with means whereby the flaps carried by either Wall may be connected adjacent the line of division in the wall, and a suspension member secured to said longitudinal edges at the upper end of the sack.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I hereunto afiix my signature.
ADOLPH E. MEYER.
