APPLICATION FILED NOV-25, I919.
Patented May 25,1920.
f/VVZN T0}? MEN. SYNOHUBYK A TTOR/VEV UNITED SEMEN SYNOHUBYK, OF EDMONTON, ALBERTA, CANADA.
COMB.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 25, 1920.
Application filed November 25, 1919. Serial No. 340,482.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, SEMIEN SYNOHUBYK, a citizen of the Dominion of Canada, residing at Edmonton, in the county of Edmonton and Province of Alberta, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combs, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to combs for use in womens hair and which might have any desired kind of ornamentation if desired.
The object of my invention is to provide a comb having a particularly formed tooth so designed to form a means whereby the kinks formed in the same will have a gripping tension on the hair.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and pointed out in the claims hereunto appended.
Figure 1 shows a side elevation of my invention, and
Fig. 2 shows a sectional view on the line 2-2 of Fi 1.
Referring to the drawings like numerals designate like parts in the various drawings.
4 indicates the base portion which may be, as previously stated, of any desired shape and having any desired ornamentation thereon. It is preferably curved semi-circular.
To this is formed a series of teeth 5 which teeth taper away from the base to a point. The teeth are doubly crimped across, center ways between the base and the point.
Referring more iarticularly to Fig. 2, it will be noted that I provide two outwardly extending kinks as at 6 and 7. The angles on the inner side of each side of these kinks as noted by X is less than a right angle, andthe outer point as noted by R is formed at right angles to the general upright of each tooth. By having this positive tooth projection at such an angle, the teeth will engage more securely in the hair and thus reduce the liability of losing the comb.
It will be further noticed that the rearwardly extending portion of each kink is in parallel relationship with each other and the distance of such rearwardly extending portion is half the distance of the portion of the tooth between such rearwardly extending portion. It has been found that such construction in this proportion will be of con-- siderably more service for the objects designed in such an invention.
This particular feature does not need to be limited to combs of this particular style, as the double tooth comb can be constructed on. a similar principle.
From the foregoing it is thought that the construction of my invention will be clearly understood, and therefore a more extended explanation has been omitted.
lVhat I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is,
A comb consisting of a base, teeth extending downwardly from said base, said teeth being tapered downwardly and having a pair of outwardly extending kinks between said base and the point of said teeth, the outwardly extending portion of each of said kinks being at right angles to the general upright of said comb, said outwardly extending portion of said kinks being parallel with each other and each being one half as long the portion of the tooth between said outwardly extendin portions.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
SEMEN SYNOHUBYK.
